Divino Amor

"What if Mary was in the club...". Well-imagined -- Mascaro has true knack for shooting bright, colorful interiors -- but somewhat distant that it's hard to connect with it beyond its good metaphors of a futuristic Brazil -- Messiah returns as a nameless baby girl (with a dick), bureaucracy, orgies and religious rituals taking place almost at the same time and a strong sense of both despair and hope. Mascaro's insistence in not making a narrative film but an atmospheric one kind of spoils this.

A decent little near-future scenario. The concept is better than the execution.

Divino Amor estreava há 5 anos no Festival de Sundance. Ao contrário do que disse sobre Democracia em Vertigem, o filme do Mascaro seria ainda mais relevante se visto em quando lançado, foi um erro meu ter adiado tanto pra vê-lo, não que tenhamos saído do vislumbre da teocracia, mas o zeitgeist de 2019 era ainda mais assustador e distópico. Nem por deixei de achar um filmaço. YTS.
