Engaging portrait of the Dixie Chicks, which feels as if its original focus (a behind the scenes look at the development of a new album) sidelines the more interesting freedom of speech angle that unexpectedly crops up, keeping this alternating between good natured, superficial shenanigans and bracing moments of honest frustration by Maines, who emerges the most interesting member of the group. Seems almost quaintly dated at times, in its depictions of the Bush administration’s chicanery.

An entertaining, often frightening look at patriotism-gone-wrong. The documentary is moving, but it is structured awkwardly.

One of the most entertaining documentaries I've ever seen. I'm also a giant Dixie Chicks fan, so my expectations were very high, and this film met all of them. The movie provides a fascinating view of these strong-willed women during a difficult time, without making them saints and without relinquishing their humor.

The film traces the backlash against the Chicks following singer Natalie Maines' now-infamous declaration at a London concert. Shut Up & Sing includes concert footage, reactions to a death threat made against Maines, and recording sessions for their album 'Taking the Long Way'. personally liked the documentary, I find it odd how those who profess the greatest love for this country find it so easy to hate those who exercise its most valued principles.

You don't have to be a Dixie Chicks fan to enjoy this movie. It's well structured, entertaining and it gives you the real intense backstage of showbizz without exaggerating.

This is an interesting documentary. It is amazing how powerful words can be sometimes. A must see for fans of freedom of speech.

Excellent documentary. Certain scenes, like the woman encouraging her young son to hate the Dixie Chicks when he can barely understand why he's protesting, are chilling. A good bet for both music lovers and those interested in political commentary.

The first half is great, the second half is stupid.

First it made me think who would win in a fist fight between James Hetfield and Natalie Maimes(i'd probably go with latter) - secondly it struck me, that mid-western country listeners who protest against the Dixie Chicks, are just as retarded as people who protest against cartoons. But the mid-westerns does offer some comic relief to the viewer, and the overall impressions is good, albeit there are parts where they tend to focus on irrelevant stuff like "it's funny they all have twins!"

I really like the Dixie Chicks and I wanted to like this movie, but this is a not a great documentary. It feels very haphazard and it just kinda goes on and then ends.

Insightful and compelling documentary about the abuse and press the Dixie Chicks faced following an off-hand negative comment about George W Bush at a London gig. Revealing, at turns both funny and scary - and packed with great music throughout, of course.

Not all that riveting, but a good Doc about girls who stuck together.
