Not on par with the better MCU movies, but still pretty badass, and pretty different from everything else Marvel. Raimi’s campiness and horror style worked like a charm for me, and the last act is one of my favorites from this entire universe. Elizabeth Olson is fantastic, I heavily enjoyed Benedict Cumberbatch’s performance(s), and Xochitl made a refreshing, likable Miss America. It’s nice to see marvel release something a little more daring and not bite off more than they can chew. Very fun.

Scarlet Witch in the Multiverse of Madness (probably would have been better if it really was). It feels like we skipped Doctor Strange 2 and jumped right to 3. The writing was very weak, full of generic tropes, and the overall plot was one of the worst of any marvel project. The horror elements and some strong acting do redeem the movie somewhat, but Raimi's style becomes its own issue detracting from an already underwhelming film.

Guess I'm seeing a different movie than some others. I loved Raimi's directing here. It instilled a lot of his personality, was visually interesting, good usage of perspective, etc. The story was strong. It started strong with action, roping us in immediately. Fighting was fun in general. Cool cameos. Horror vibe gelled well with the MCU framework. There's usually a villain issue in MCU movies but Wanda was one of the rare instances where an MCU villain felt truly threatening/terrifying.

Forget about power creep, Scarlet Witch’s power level has literally blown up exponentially from Raditz to Kid Buu between movies lol. Could’ve busted out some of those skills vs Thanos. It’s certainly not a boring movie - hell, it may be the single busiest movie I’ve seen since Crank 2: High Voltage. Another monster or supervillain to fight every couple minutes. Kind of makes me want to take a trip thru the multiverse to a world where CGI was never invented though lol. It’s a bit much.

This film wants to be a really, really complicated horror film, but it falls under its own weight and structure too often. Raimi brings a lot of great horror sensibilities that make this one of the first MCU films with a proper genre, but it's trying to do way too much and requires too much summer reading to be properly understood as a film.

In another universe, MCU fans who hadn't watched WandaVision is having a blast with this flick that didn't involve Wanda as the story's main arc, and yet in another one, Raimi doesn't get to inject his horror elements, and in another one, corporate greed doesn't rob the fans of all the surprises contained, and there is one last universe where Scorcese enjoys this movie like a 13 year old.

Great MCU film with actual plot development and I loved the horror elements, so I'm going to nitpick on the rest: could cut about 20 mins of CGI fights like everything at Kamar-Taj until the mirror scene. Dr. Strange quips too much like Tony Stark. Power creep. Trend of multiverse cameos is going to get tiring. Too much green screen w/bland backgrounds but the SFX are gorgeous. Gomez and McAdams weren't given enough variety in their role. Olsen MVP. Fav scene: fighting the Earth-838 characters.

It bored me to death, it is particularly disappointing given the fact that the first movie was one of the gems of the MCU. The story is too weak to carry 2.5 hours of people making awkward hand gestures, screaming, badly designed monsters and weak superhero showdowns sprinkled with Americana/Hallmark family moments. I don't know what Raimi had in mind, but he ultimately lost me. When they showed the teaser for the next one, I was like "Good luck Dr. Strange, I won't be there"

Is it wrong that I enjoy pretty much every MCU movie I end up watching but also think Scorsese has a point that this isn't cinema? Am I the death of art? Is my brain rotting in my head? I GM'd a game of Maid RPG once. Our RPG group did a secret Santa and I was given a copy as a joke. So the next year we did a Maid RPG Christmas Special. I'd be horrified to meet anyone who genuinely loved playing Maid RPG, but maybe I'm also part of the problem, killing anything of quality by wallowing in filth.

While certainly not Raimi's first foray into superhero movies, nor is it his first blockbuster budgeted movie, this is, however the first time he's been allowed to utilize all of his idiosyncratic flourishes and for a fan, it's freakin' awesome. Additionally, this is also one of the first times Marvel has deviated from the tried and true, but fairly homogeneous approach that the multi-million dollar franchise was built on.

More and more I feel the need to do research after these movies so I have some understanding of things. Here's hoping you watched WandaVision. Enjoyed my watch, really enjoy Cumberbatch as this character. Cudos for the subtle nod to "hey in an alternate universe both X-Men AND Fantastic 4 are in the MCU", that popped me pretty good. I like a darker MCU and there are certainly elements of that presented here, there are real stakes, and the film looks incredible. America is a good character too.

The glass-half-empty take on this film is that Raimi would have been better off simply making another Evil Dead sequel rather than imposing his will on a stiff, unwieldy franchise. That’s a better alternate reality, but it’s not the one we currently live in. Here, we can only be happy with what we get.

Doctor Strange in the MoM (uhh...happy mothers day) can't help but underwhelm off the heels of A24's googly-eyed charmer on moms and multiverses. Raimi's style is fun to return to but he can elevate the basic franchise formula only so much as a hired gun.

Made me wish Sam Raimi could just take over the MCU. I love how it made the main characters' magic seem genuinely creepy, unnatural, and occult. I'd be fascinated to see an R-rated cut of this, but as it is, it already pushes the PG-13 limit with some surprising violence. It doesn't exactly shatter the MCU mold, but it does cover it with a refreshing blend of spices.

The same mood as Rob Zombie’s old Dragula video - sure, you could look for a plot, but it’s all pagan verve and pop apocalyptic symbolism and shades of implied gore. Strange finds out the multiverse really is all about him, and it does a strong disservice to Wanda’s buildup in previous incarnations. It’s a shame because Raimi’s singular Fuck All tone infuses the film with the same kind of special vision that propelled Thor: Ragnorok, Guardians, and Iron Man beyond their Multiversal overlords.

I've seen every Marvel property and even I had trouble keeping up with this one at points. The larger problem is that this one is pulled apart in so many ways that the chaos becomes controlled and few moments really manage to wow. As always, Marvel Studios gets the job done, but I'm starting to think it's becoming too big to fail - which is usually what happens right soon before something begins to fail.

Fortunately the last 30 minutes hits alot of moving & interesting emotional high points (Cumberbatch & McAdams sell their climax & we watch the results of what might be called toxic maternity - unheard of in our Girl Power! world) because everything in the first 1/2 is way too on the nose & telegraphed. You know exactly what changes Strange will experience the minute he doesn't bow to Wong or is told he needs to hold the knife. Raimi's "horror" works at times, but mostly feels Evil Dead goofy.

I might see it differently with some distance but this felt like a bunch of pretty cool set pieces haphazardly tied together with a pretty average script and boring characters. Visually it's pretty cool but this was a lot of missed potential. The multiverse was underutilized and what came out of that was just lame and pointless, especially since they have actual material they could have used to elevate the film's plot beats. The story is functionally a followup from Wandavision, but without actually caring about what that show aimed for and moreso using it as a lame excuse to turn Wanda into a villain. America Chavez also added nothing and was just lame.

This film had a lot of potential that it failed to live up to. The character of Wanda went from being one of the most interesting to one of the most bland, all off-screen. A rousing stomp through the planes was tossed in favor of a story with events happening largely out-of-control of our leads. They tease us with the introduction of fan favorites, and then dump them without development. It's slick looking, sure. But it fails to deliver what was promised.

People have long criticized MCU films as being too serial, like every movie is an episode of a TV show. Here, I finally may be in agreement with that, I'm not sure I would have understood everything if I hadn't seen WandaVision. I skipped What If?, and maybe I missed a couple things here because of that. Worse, it's just an action flick. It's never stupid, bad or boring but it never manages to be exceptional or memorable, outside of one incredible scene with some next level eye candy.

Ugh, this should have been a slam dunk for me, but I am in Marvel fatigue and the writing of the characters was completely crap. Sam Raimi's direction was super fun and there were some visual moments I adored, but if the writing isn't there, I check out emotionally and can't fully enjoy all of the stuff. They did Wanda wrong, they did America Chavez wrong, and though I've seen 99% of the Marvel products, this felt soo damn cluttered with franchise stuff. Disappointed, not surprised.

A very good one from Marvel. The story is full of twists and turns which are hard to forsee and we also get a protagonist who makes a few hard choices, and an antagonist with whom you can sympathize. They are still far from being morally grey, but we definitely took a step in that direction. Also, the visuals of the Multiverse are just mind blowing. CGI really adds to the storytelling this time. Be aware though that the story heavily relies on Avengers 3-4, so DO watch those before this one.

A prime example of a movie being held back by the restrictions of its franchise's formula. The multiverse is explored in an interesting way, but the movie can't lean too far into it to maintain the MCU standards. A shame given you had one of the greatest horror directors at the helm. That being said, what we got was very good, especially the characterizations on Strange and Wanda. Fantastic imagery, a genuinely suspenseful story, and some thrilling moments make this movie worthwhile.

Although it feels like there are three different ideas of what this movie was supposed to be, Doctor Strange 2: In the Multiverse of Madness Boogaloo manages to be another alright MCU film (that statement is sad at this point). I feel like the film's biggest strengths completely stem from Sam Raimi's sure vision and magnetic style because everything else remains Melodrama with a capital "M." I'm happy to witness a dark MCU movie with Multiverse Of Madness, but given the fascination of the concept, it shouldn't have been so poorly written. Sam Raimi's direction, horror elements, bloody moments are the rare good things that make the film enjoyable. I would love to see Scott Derrickson's vision, but it's much clearer why he left the project. He did not accept the story imposed on him. (05/06/2022 - Cinemaximum Metrogarden)

Super fun and very entertaining movie. Lots of character growth for everyone involved, most of which are top notch actors. Raimi brings his vibe and it makes for a great movie, I just wish the romance bits didn't feel so forced and sappy, especially since they had to break up the only good romance in the MCU (Wanda & Vision) to make this storyline happen. The CGI felt weak at times too, which is too bad given the movie's quality.

Definitely in the upper tier of the MCU and a decent improvement on the first Doctor Strange, thanks to Raimi's flourishes and the higher body count allowance a multiverse provides (trillions at least). Still somewhat disappointing, because we all want that unchained Raimi/Derrickson version that was teased with zombie Strange & the Illuminati getting stomped. Honestly one of my favorites from Marvel in a long while. The film pushes the characters of both Doctor Strange and Wanda into new and surprisingly daring directions. It also delivers visually both as a Marvel special effects showcase and a Raimi horror-adjacent film. There's plenty of CGI laden effects present and a fair 'dollop' of action and tense moments throughout but I admit I'm no Marvel afficiando and so I didn't really follow the various intricacies where the various characters are concerned. Felt like a long fan-service and cameo filled campy alternate ending epilogue to WandaVision. With all of the magical possibilities from Strange and Scarlet Witch they should be some of the most interesting characters in the MCU, yet this doesn't take many chances or surprise you with much. Wanda is reduced to a misogynistic trope where her powers and mind have been warped by the singular motivation to reach her children, because of course women aren't strong enough to actually cope.

A fairly bad non-stop action movie lacking any meaningful allegory. It is somewhat redeemed by a comparatively daring style that is, at times, psychedelic and nightmarish. However, the radical overuse of full-screen CGI, trite dialogue, and cartoony nature of the rest of the film diminishes even this one positive aspect. Adding insult to injury, the new ethnically diverse MCU character and her two mothers are the exact kind of shallow woke-pandering that modern Disney is getting infamous for.

The mixed reviews had me temper by expectations, and as a horror buff, I was expecting the horror elements to be pretty tame. Surprisingly, this almost lived up to my high expectations of when it was first announced. The horror scenes are actually pretty creepy and interesting, it has one of the best MCU villains (obvi), one of the most brutal MCU deaths (bisection), and it’s far from boring. Could’ve maybe used an extra scene or two to allow breathing room. Overall, a lot of fun.

Probably an overly harsh rating based on annoyance with the MCU in general. I didn't spend the 10 hours to watch the tv show that makes Scarlett Witch's character make sense, so that doesn't help. I like Benediction Cucumber fine as an actor, but Strange is one of the more boring MCU heroes, and this film only does a little bit to help that. Multiverse of Madness is more a sequel to Wandavision than to Doctor Strange; a prerequisite (alongside the supplementary material of What If) that makes me question whether this film stands on its own. An early fight scene in NYC was eerily reminiscent of 00's Spiderman, before I remembered that Raimi directs both. His nods to horror are present but toned down to banality & the lighting was persistently too obvious. The film has its moments, but the overall tone is too inconsistent.

Despite not being the most coherent Marvel entry thus far, Doctor Strange 2 provides a nice visual flair and darker elements that we have yet to see from the bigger universe. It’s story elements are more so a mixed bag with how surface level the Multiverse has been this far, but it without a doubt shows Raimi’s talent at it’s best. But for me, I think there is something fundamentally wrong with the premise. To me, it really seems they wasted WandaVision which was such a great series. In a brilliant twist, Wanda is arguably the scariest villain we've yet seen in the MCU. Unfortunately, the movie indulges in hollow contemporary tropes (the real hero who saves the day is the young "Latinx" girl with the LGBTQ+ flag, not the white man), and lets Wanda off too easily with a weak ending. Nevertheless, Xochitl Gomez gives a solid performance (I was surprised to learn she was 14 years old during filming), and Raimi's personal touch is everywhere. One of the stronger MCU movies.

It's nice (and appropriate!) that Disney let Raimi do his thing with this fun mishmash of material, which consists of a grab bag of themes and story beats somehow cobbled together to work almost wonderfully. It's as though they reached into a scrabble bag and made an exciting seven-letter word that isn't actually a word, but we let it slide because it's creative.

America is annoying. The character, that is. So are Wanda's kids. They get away with their abysmal acting skills in Wandavision due to its tongue-in-cheek sitcom satire framing, but here their presence dooms anything emotional. Lots of 'because magic' writing. Raimi doesn't make this Raimi enough to set it apart from the dominant dash of MCU herb mix and so his occasional horror and slapstick tangents just come across silly and jarring.

Disappointing . A shame what they did to Wanda. Too complicated and dark. Also in the end.. pointless. Good CGI though. Wong as usual was brilliant

Pretty huge deviation from the MCU status quo, but in a welcome way. Very enjoyable.

Raimi can't totally escape the trappings of the MCU machine, but he manages to inject some bursts of grisly death, dark imagery, and fleeting camp into the mix. There's still a lot in here that totally blows; I couldn't care less about any of these characters, so between moments of spectacle, I felt a bit restless. Still, I have to admire any major franchise film that's willing to potentially alienate a substantial portion of its audience with its weirdness and occasional grotesqueries.

The multiverse concept has to be one of the worst ideas in the history of cinema. It makes everything into an incoherent mess without relatable stakes.

"Wanda dealing with issues" would have been a better title. At the end of the movie, I asked myself this question: "Was there any character development by the main (dr strange)?" The answer for me is: no. He feels more like a support character. The special effects aren't as good as previous one (a lot of red and boom boom, not cool collapsing buildings or mind bending stuff). Best part for me was professor x written as he would be in the 90's. Respect for that but kind of disappointed overal.

Enjoyable MCU effort bests most recent entries; its scaled down, less hectic approach to the action is a definite asset (though still sometimes gloriously overwhelming, especially in 3D). Cumberbatch at last seems serenely at home as Strange; his conflict with Olsen’s Scarlet Witch is well plotted and realised. Raimi doesn't reinvent the wheel, but brings a freshness and vitality to the MCU building blocks (especially the ghoulishly well-realized demons towards the finale). Bruce Campbell ftw!

A well-written and directed movie, however, not as impressive as previous marvel movies.

The Raimi horror sections are great, as well as some key moments, with cool surprises and what ifs, but its joined together by a lot of blad stuff too, and can be quite jarring as it switches to surreal Raimi Horror and then back to standard MCU. America Chavez was good but didn't get to do a lot. They struck the right balance on the humour. Wanda made a great villain.

It would appear that superhero film identity is in some kind of dark and emotional phase. I wonder where the genre will end up. This was fun big budget film with some really nice visual effects and great bits of humor. The whole story along with char development seemed a bit dried up and just generally unnecessary in the universe. Still good fun but I wouldn't see it again.

Like 10 threadbare movies in one. A movie best digested in 5 minute youtube clips. Unclear why the scarlet witch, who is set up as an existential threat to entire universes, can't instantly kill basically everyone, Invincible style.

Boring and predictable. This is the thing that annoys me about Marvel - nonsensical and out of character decisions, and bullshit twists - just to push the story through. Plus a ton of fan service. Getting tired of it.

This is the first good MCU film since Endgame. Raimi's brutal, creative and genuine touch was sorely needed. Olsen provides the emotional element the first Dr. Strange movie missed and almost anything is more interesting than that bland origin story (i got hurt and went to magic school). Alternate realities are always fun anyway and i loved seeing Stewart as classic Professor X, including goofy yellow hover chair. Can we just have Raimi do all of their stuff?

Some cool imagery sprinkled throughout this cavalcade of rambling, convoluted exposition. I struggled to pay attention
