About as good a "soldiers vs. werewolves" movie as we're likely to ever get.

This time around the werewolves are metaphors for haircuts, or maybe I misinterpreted that. If you like the horror/war mix I recommend R-Point.

This film doesn't hark back to the Hammer days but looks instead to more recent action horror movies for its inspiration; this film is much more Aliens than Alien. Replace the colony complex with a claustrophobic farmhouse in Scotland and the aliens with werewolves. Add a non-Hollywood edge, stir in couple of small twists and mix with a good amount of dark and 'military forces' type humour and you've got a fair idea of what you're going to get... with bite!

A wonderful mix of black humor and action. May be a little too 'cheap' for some, but for me it was a breath of fresh air. Would recommend to anyone who tastes bile in their mouth when they witness the pathetic devolution of those creatures we all thought were cool when we were young into glitter-sprinkled metrosexual twats.

Running around online, you see people praising this movie everywhere. As one who enjoys vampire/werewolf movies, I decided to rent it and see what the hype was all about. In my opinion...very little. While the story did keep me interested, I saw nothing to elevate this above your typical werewold fare.

One of the most unexpectedly good movies I've seen. The characters are real and interesting, the plot progresses smoothly and logically, and the werewolf effects are some of the best ever. Lot's of fun.

A platoon of British soldiers hit the woods for routine training in the Scottish Highlands when they're besieged by blood-hungry werewolves. Marshall's debut is sharp, funny and often down-right cool, at least when its not beset by serious budget issues. The forest stuff is beautifully shot, but the film looks cheap and grainy and the werewolf costumes are underwhelming. Still, there are flashes of brilliance that show Marshall could work magic with more money, and with The Descent, he does.

A good set-up for such a simple but well-conducted genre exercise that goes from gory horror to the fort defense Carpenter/Hawks adventure. A few things get lost through the end, but the overall sense of madness in Marshall's cinema is already here, through fast-paced shots of the creepies werewolves you can imagine and lines about footy (England is playing against Germany, but these soldiers have to be in this exercise instead; massacre goes both ways, in favor of England and the wolves).

Not many werewolf movies can get a positive review from me due to a childhood interest in the subject that leaves me overly critical, but Dog Soliders gets it right. The creation of suspense through trapping the movie's victims rather than throwing constant visuals of the threat should be lauded.

This is one of the most under-rated films ever made. It is a classy horror spoof unlike so many others. It is actually a good story line and acted very well by all involved and the humour is not cringe worthy it is just how you would imagine normal people speaking but this film's brilliance can be summed up with one quote -
"We are now up against live, hostile targets. So, if Little Red Riding Hood should show up with a bazooka and a bad attitude, I expect you to chin the bitch" Brilliant film

All is well until you have guys in dog suits chasing our protagonists.

It didn't terrify me, but I don't think it was trying to. Instead, it seemed like it wanted to give me an entertaining creature film with a likable cast and some humorous dialogue. It did all of that, and when the film ended, I was disappointed not because it was a bad movie, but because I didn't think I got enough of it. The acting was solid, the tongue-in-cheek style it was created in made it all the more entertaining, and it ended up being really enjoyable.

Dated effects (that were probably passable for the time), pretty good actors and solid pacing make a worthy action-horror creature film. As long as it’s not taken too seriously, and you can get past the limiting budget, it’s better than one may expect. I might appreciate a reimagining with a higher budget one day.
