Evokes 60s clubs, diners and nightlife as well as Inside Llewyn Davis. And Lili Taylor is adorable and so much wiser than Phoenix's immature kid ever will be. There's an image of him running toward the Bay Bridge that could be straight out of a dream, or Kerouac for that matter. The real ending then is unnecessary. All has been said before.

schnofel nails this one. their initial parting is lent greater resonance by knowledge of phoenix's passing, and while the reunion is hardly a happy one it adds little beyond exclamation points.

Lili Taylor is woefully underrated.

Perfectly watchable period romance that doesn't ever quite take off, yet still pleases in its own way.

What a beautiful little film. Lili Taylor is unbelievably adorable and Phoenix plays the part of a young man about to burst with rage at any moment.

There is something so very organic at play here. It exudes a time and place. The two leads are top notch. It can be very tender in one moment, and crass in another. But the tone management is good. It's a subtle, complicated movie that drew me in every step of the way.
