Interesting material if you like Bergman (if you like cinema I should say) and have already seen the film in question. The working relationship between Bergman & Nykvist is wonderful to observe as is their method of meticulous setup that remains open to spontaneous creativity. It is still nothing more than a video journal with minimal inserts from the director. Some bits go on for too long but I didn't find it boring even though I watched it after sitting through the entire 5h film in a cinema.

I enjoyed watching this because I loves me some Ingmar and seeing him and his fellow filministas in their element is always gonna be interesting, but god damn does it drag on at times.

Not that we needed it, but this is further evidence that Bergman was a master filmmaker, of both fiction and as it turns out documentary films (it's not easy to make a 'making of' film that is in itself properly cinematic). But even he could not successfully direct a cat! Watching Bergman work with an elderly Gunnar Björnstrand (my favourite of Bergman's acting troupe) on set with compassion and reverence is a real pleasure.

Never bad to watch Bergman working. On particular display here are Nykvist's meticulousness, Björnstrand's struggles with memory problems, and the two very good child actors who play the titular characters.

Interesting at times, but not particularly insightful or revealing. Some parts just wouldn't end, too.

It is great to watch Bergman at work, and it's interesting to see how many decisions are made off the cuff. Still, it IS just a behind-the-scenes documentary (the first one I've ever watched twice, I believe) and could hardly be considered essential viewing. I also think 19 minutes of Gunnar Bjornstrand with a candle on his head is a little much, although the scene does serve a purpose.

Rip no MakingOff

It's interesting, especially the part with Sven Nykvist throwing a camera through two doors, but it's not much more than interesting. I think the Gunnar Bjornstrand part was appropriately long, but it did kind of drag.

Mostly uncommented long shots of Bergman directing, the act of realizing a movie as he goes along even though it all seems so very planned out. Brilliant companion piece to the film, with a fair amount of warmth and humour, though you do kind of wish there was more film of him back when he used to terrorize his actors.
