Ouch. This is a mess. The half of the film's script that I could understand through Robert Downey Jr.'s confusing accent was lackluster and dull that overused voiceover, even robbing the film of what could have been entertaining sequences. The pop culture references are stale, the animation poor, and quite honestly the world might be better off without Dolittle existing.

This must be the biggest bullshit story I've seen in quite a while. Technically and visually it's ok and it even gave me a laugh here and there but this is just one big mess. Robert Downey Jr. is astoundingly bad too. There's actually only one actor that can pull this kind of role off and that would be Johnny Depp.

There are moments in Dolittle where it appears the cast is at the very least trying, but the way in which the film is edited makes the film truly unenjoyable. The script is just garbage. The voice work and sound editing seem misused, to the point that certain characters' voices just don't work or don't sound natural (even on human characters). The plot has a few good ideas, but its overall weakness is exacerbated by the narration gimmick. An exemplary lesson on how not to put together a film.

Most of this is bad bad, but some of it is actually good bad. Notably: The terrible CGI and Robert Downey's ridiculous accent. Props to him, he went full ham - the only appropriate way to deal with the cards he was dealt.

So our broken Dolittle and his band of famous actors doing the voices of the animals embark on a psuedo-adventure full of humor that half of Hollywood took a crack at. It's very much a throw every joke you can at the audience and fine, a fair number worked. Enough to relieve Dolittle from being a boring, hateful experience. I laughed. A lot. I was ashamed of myself, but there it is. Dolittle won.

There's quite an assortment of issues in this film. Primarily in RDJs performance, which doesn't seem sure what it wants to be. The accent is all over the place, and he is often whispering or mumbling lines WHILE actively prancing around, which doesn't compute. Also, the animals humor would've worked for Eddie Murphy, but not for RDJ, who doesn't have the right charisma to work with the animals. What missed potential we have!

Not even this formidable array of talent can beat the Dolittle curse - inexplicably flat and lifeless dreck proves that at the end of the day, the writing is the thing - Gaghan's adaptation is convoluted, confusing and ultimately boring, not helped by an uncharacteristically removed performance from Downey, seemingly trying to channel a Tim Burton era Johnny Depp, but dragging things down by being so indifferent to all around him. I wish it had at least been bad in a fun way!

Maybe I am biased because of RDJ, but this movie exceeded my expectations! It has everything a cinephile would want: action, drama, story, and finally a heartwarming message.

The fact it is for kids is the reason why I am so generous. Not as bad as the trailer makes it to be, some background fairy tale elements and animals that could be fun for a kid. They went a tad deeper with themes of loss; that came as a surprise. Much less tolerable for an adult viewer however. It is drug-crazed Sherlock Holmes trying to be Johnny Depp at times.

I saw this when it came out and forget to review it here, but it's really not as bad as critics say -- but it's still bad. I guess there's some amusing lines from the fairly colourful cast of animals, though it soon becomes a boring adventure (even for children) and Downey downright sucks.

After losing his wife, John Dolittle, a Victorian-era doctor, secedes from the world with only his exotic animals for company. However, when the young Queen Victoria falls seriously ill, John is forced to travel to a mythical island in search of a cure. In his quest, he is accompanied by a young apprentice and a company of animals, including a fearful gorilla, an enthusiastic duck, a cynical ostrich, a happy polar bear and a quirky parrot.

One might think if they'd hewed more closely to Lofting's original text, it might have turned out a little better. The sad thing is you can see a really good children's film hiding in here. I

Can I call this an awesome movie, no. And if you're going to go in there and start counting the things that don't realistically add up you're going to have a bad time. But Downey Jr. does well portraying a scatterbrained recluse. The CGI is cute but obviously CGI at several points. It's a treasure hunt story for a cure for the queen. Hardly deep. But fun at times.

I wasn't really disappointed but I did feel a little underwhelmed. The CGI is quite bad, surprisingly so. The acting and dialogue is really bad even from Robert Downey Jr. The story was pretty bland and the climax of the film was a big letdown even for such a low reaching kids movie.

Nobody asked for another Dolittle film, but some genius out there decided to make one, despite their bad track record. The Fleischer version was dull, but at least it was a lavish production for its time. The new one plays like a low rent direct to streaming kids film that somehow secured a high budget. There is no sense of scale, and Downey makes hash of a role that seems more suited to a mid 00's Depp. The effects are poor, and the jagged editing creates serious continuity problems.

Seems like a lot of people hate this but this is almost an old fashioned family films (with CGI). I really enjoyed it and no left wing politics to destroy it.

This is just bad. The story is boring, Downey's accent is too exaggerated and not even that interesting, the tone is all over the place, and the climax is gross. I had to give RDJ the benefit of the doubt because he's a good actor, but yeesh, how did this get made?

This was destined to be what it was - a movie that's going to work for most kids (which I think it did), and a VERY small segment above the age of 10 (which, based on reception... maybe?). The post-Tony Stark world is not off to the greatest start for Mr. RDJ, even though visually I thought the movie was decent, or at least par. I can't say I didn't crack a smile, but beyond that, this exists in a very forgettable space with other kids movies that spent way too much money on their voice cast.

Holy Shit, I couldnt watch more than 20 minutes of this tripe .. that was probably about the same I could tolerate of "Mars Attacks". I have never seen a film so lacking in humour, so lacking in inventiveness, so lacking in technical mastery, so lacking in anticipation, so lacking in believability (yes, its still needed, even in a Kids movie ) as this. What a waste of a talented group of actors.

Horrible CGI, camerawork and editing, are all robustly supported by horrible voice work and casting. RDJ is almost unintelligible as he stumbles his way around an approximation of a Welsh accent by hoping that constant whispering will hide the ineptitude. The bland phoned-in story concludes with some equally unintelligible dragon guff. There is worse out there to be fair, but this is undeniably shite.

TV aberta.

I can't figure out why this film exists. From what I've read, it was a genuine attempt to make money, but the studio apparently put incompetents in charge of it. They made a film aimed at 8 year olds, but commence the story with a death. Great start, guys! Then Downey Jr. plays the lead in such a way that he's not endearing to kids but instead invokes "creepy guy who lives across the street." Maybe they envisioned it as a new Willie Wonka? We may never know but what resulted didn't work. At all.

Flawed as it may be it's definitely not as terrible as its made out to be (My PSI is 10). More than anything it feels like Gaghan had a very specific vision, delivered a 4 hour director's cut to the studio, who understandably panicked and tried to shoehorn it into something resembling a 1h40m children's film, which arguably adds to the surreal feel.
