Screen adaptation of Mozart's greatest opera. Don Giovanni, the infamous womanizer, makes one conquest after another until the ghost of Donna Anna's father, the Commendatore, (whom Giovanni killed) makes his appearance. He offers Giovanni one last chance to repent for his multitudinous improprieties. He will not change his ways So, he is sucked down into hell by evil spirits. Há exatos 40 anos estreava em New York. Bom, digamos que a coroa de grande transposição de uma ópera de Mozart para o cinema ainda fica com A Flauta Mágica do Bergman, mas o Losey em segundo lugar também não é nenhuma tragédia. DVD Duplo Versátil.

Decent entertainment for Mozart lovers, with lots of caveats. It's said that Losey had never seen DG on stage--it shows. By making the Don so relentlessly evil, he cuts out the raison d'etre of the opera itself. Without just a bit of ambiguity, why not skip the opera altogether and just send the Don straight to hell? Jose Van Dam is a WONDERFUL Leporello... the rest of the cast is decent, except for the superannuated Berganza (a peasant girl?? I think not)--Zerlina is NOT a mezzo role.
