Beautiful washed-out photography. It walks the line between absurdity and reality very well, so Quixote is much more poignant and sympathetic here than in most other film versions.

A dreamer all too keenly aware of human suffering feels acutely the shame of being a man and the necessity of responding to that shame, leading him to undertake a mission to save all mankind, to the point of madness. A successful and impressive adaptation featuring an excellent performance by Cherkasov and some remarkable sequences and photography.
