Elmer, rich society loafer, falls for Mary, but she'll have nothing to do with him until (mistakenly thinking that he's hiring a new chauffeur) he accidentally volunteers for the army. Luckily, Mary's signed up to entertain the troops. Unluckily, Elmer's sergeant likes Mary, too. And worst of all, they're all about to ship out for France. (imdb)

a completely watchable and entertaining keaton talkie, there a no large faults to be found here. this movie has been lumped in with the other completely horrible talkies starring keaton in the early 30's after mgm decided they wouldn't let him do any stunts and wouldn't let him write or direct, but the fact of the matter is that mgm had a decent one up their sleeve here, even if it doesn't have buster's genius.

Boring and empty. Sad to see Keaton in something like this. He's still very charming and his chemistry with Sally Eilers is nice. The drill sergeants voice might be the most annoying in cinematic history

The MGM talkie Keaton was happiest with; it's a much more straightforward picture than Free and Easy before it, and probably better off for it. It's pleasant enough, if a bit short on particularly big moments, though the musical numbers are actually fun for once, and the Apache Dance bit feels a much more welcome inclusion in a Keaton feature than whatever they were thinking with the half-baked operetta in the last one.
