Down and Out in Beverly Hills

It's OK, but you're better off renting the original ("Boudu, Saved from Drowning") instead.

Annoying reworking of a movie I didn't like in the first place.

Has its moments. Interesting premise of homeless man teaching neuvo riche family about life.

Pretty solid.

High Concept qualitishistic stuff.

I liked it when I first saw it 20 years ago, but it hasn't aged well at all. It's so 80's, it becomes almost unwatchable in any other decade.

Down and Out is a different kind of movie that probably won't appeal to everyone, but I found its quirkiness to be entertaining.

I liked Nolte.

Not a fan of Bette Midler but she is good in this movie and I like anything with Nick Nolte. Lots of laughs in this flick.

It's a long time before we get any laughs in this comedy, and when we do, they're not consistent or strong enough. The premise (a suicidal bum falls in with the SoCal nouveau riche) is promising, and Nick Nolte is ideally cast in the lead role, but we also have Richard Dreyfuss (who's passable) and Bette Midler (who's honestly fairly blah) to deal with, along with an undercooked script and some really dated jokes; meditation is "so 60s"? So are jokes about it. Best scene: getting the dog to eat.

Not much to say about this one: given the title and the first few minutes you can pretty much call exactly what's gonna happen. Doesn't go as far as it could have or explore areas that would've given it a more memorable status, but if you're in a not-too-demanding mood this generic '80s comedy is passable enough.

Some funny scenes, but this "rebellious" comedy is firmly on the side of the status quo.
