What made the show great were the character arcs, but there's little time for that here. As a result this is more plot driven & contains some silly contrivances & implausible behavior from favorites (esp how the staff takes over). There's not enough character development to go around, but what there is, is great (Thomas' situation & the truth behind an inheritance). There's also a moving (& unnecessary?) farewell & Fellowes' usual gift for not hiding that he's romanticizing a rigid class system.

Everything lovers of the television show will want and expect. The storyline is limited, it left me wanting more. However, the story is well acted and portrayed... It just feels like a special extended-length episode, and it leaves me wanting to watch the rest of a non-existent season.

A lavish, tidy picture. Playing it safe as the finale of a beloved programme, it's a bit forgettable, but impeccably designed and quite enjoyable. Dame Maggie Smith really is a treasure.

This movie is for fans of the TV show. Newcomers will likely be bored. That said, it was the perfect extended-length episode, which left out the bad parts of the series (namely Bates drama) and gave us just enough to be left wanting more but satisfied if we don't get it.

Like one of the weaker episodes.

Like a two hour episode of a very good TV show. It doesn't try to be anything more or less. I personally kind of wish I had tried to be more, but that wouldn't be in the spirit of the franchise.

A very typical TV series feel-good fanservice follow-up film. A sweet little trip down memory lane - nothing more, nothing less.

It's mostly bereft of purpose and consequence. That the cast and the sparkling dialogue still make it work is all the testament needed for how good they are.

Enjoyable, even if you haven't seen the show (like me). The first hour is a bit dull, but luckily it picks up later on.

Weak and toothless but I guess it does exactly what it should.

Gives the fans exactly what they want; no more, no less. I'm not the biggest fan of the TV series, but I have seen all the episodes and frankly you won't get much out of the film if you're not familiar with the characters and backstory. It's basically more of the same with better production values. Story is quite nonexistent and only serves as an excuse to gather characters together, dress them up and and show off the abbey. In this age of sequels and superhero films, that can be enough.

Haven't watched the show. Seems like a solid TV special, not that it's a bad thing. Nice cast and dialogue. Didn't care much once the royals actually arrived. The gay club and aftermath just seem forced. Fav scenes: telling off the royal staff.

Approaching as a complete newbie: Genial and enjoyable evocation of an idealised "upstairs and downstairs" household is an enticing commercial for the TV show - while time is taken to observe some grumblings from downstairs, the "house slave" attitudes could perhaps be dissected more meaningfully. With this cast it would be hard to go wrong, with Smith's infamous daggers nicely sharpened during sparring sessions with Wilton, though a climactic revelation does score some modest emotional heft.

I normally enjoy elaborate, dialogue driven period pieces. But it's so busy with its SJW and class warfare causes, there wasn't much room left. It probably didn't help either that I didn't watch the series.

If you like the television programme, I imagine you'll love this. But I don't like the programme. Nice to see Simon Jones and Geraldine James again, after so many years.

It’s too pro-tory & generally lawful-neutral conservative for my liking. Not just because of character actions, but due to narrative bias/lens & the way the audience is manipulated to sympathize with the elite. Capitalist propaganda, it feels like, after a certain point (season 3? Can’t recall when it began to decline).

I mostly got what I wanted, which is some new, pleasant experiences for characters I love. The show's energy isn't really there, both due to a lack of peril and because everyone's a little older. And too bad Bates and Baxter barely got to appear.

It's more of another special episode rather than a movie which basically follows the weakest and laziest parts of the show.

İngiliz kraliyet ailesinin, Downtown Abbey malikanesinde gelmesi üzerine, evdeki ahali ve hizmetçilerin telaşını izliyoruz. Hızlı konuşma tekniğinin üstlerine çıkan film, alt üst sınıf toplum uyuşmasının sofistike durumlarıyla bayıltıyor. Sürpriz oyuncuların olması, dönem ruhu iyi anlatılmış. Fakat konu çok yavan. İngiliz dallas. Filmin sonunda, görkemli balo dans sahnesi. Burası otel değil canım Downtown Abbey.

This world, with its aristocrats with their strong sense of tradition and decorum, which they nevertheless never let get in the way (at least not in the end) of common sense and humanity, is as much a fantasy version of England of the past as Tolkien's Shire. But I'm willing to take this version of the upper class over the mess that is the real thing. Also, it was about time that Thomas finally got to do some mouthkissing with his lips, so that's also a plus.

My Downton Abbey heart was happy and satisfied. *Spoiler alert. How can it not be. Mary is Mary, Edith is strong, the dresses, the music, Thomas and Tom finds love, Moseley made me laugh and Granny is the best ever. *Very Good (I'm too bias here)
