Fun little Technicolor adventure. The special effects are pretty cool and Dr. Cyclops (or Thorkell, which is really the character's name) is an appropriately evil villain. The story and other characters are a bit lacking though, and it's maybe a bit too goofy at times, but definitely worth viewing. Especially children would enjoy this, I think.

It's a lot of fun, the heroine is one of the best in the genre, and it did more with the premise than most of the followups. I'd love to remake this one.

The lead performance is pretty good and the visual effects are quite effective. The pacing is a bit uneven and the whole thing feels more ridiculous than scary some of the time, but it's a fun and pretty well executed ride.

Shows lots of ingenuity even compared to other more modern films. However the heroes are truly greedy and selfish individuals. They force themselves on the "villain" and then cry foul after the fact in a lawless jungle. But that makes it a very down and dirty human story. Surprisingly effective SFX and the fact that it's early color makes that even more impressive. Recommended.

Not bad but not all that special either

Hampered by a thoroughly doofy soundtrack. Still, it does have that bank examiner guy from IAWL (along with the Fernwood Flasher!). And yeah, the little horse was cool.

I saw this as a kid and for the most part it holds up. Dekker is entertaining as the mad scientist and while the rest of the cast does little more than show up, the effects are inventive and fun.

A cool and cheesy color horror where Ernest B. Schoedsack re-use a lot of the same special effect logics as he used for King Kong (1933). While this time the staging are a little simpler, it works just as excellent! Albert Dekker captures the imagination as the mad doctor, but the rest of the cast is bland and just there to be captured and minimized. With a bigger budget I'm sure they could have made it even more adventurous, but as far as 1940 horror films this one is unique.

The oversized props and effects are pretty impressive, and Albert Dekker is very good as the mad doctor, but it lacks in most other areas. Overall it's nice entertainment.
