Oh well, nothing new, nothing special. Watchable, it's a good looking movie but nothing worth watching more than once. Just don't go in expecting something else.

Let's start with the good. Untold is a very pretty movie, with some great fight scene direction and cinematography. Also Dance and Evans do justice in their roles. Yet despite this, the movie falls flat in the stereotypical reboot/badass antihero sense. Not that I expected much, just not very good.

Untold is a thoroughly competent yet aggressively mediocre movie, it holds your interest for exactly the length it's on the screen and not a second longer. I didn't hate it, but I also have no doubt I'll have forgotten I've watched it by tomorrow. Dracula should be many, many things. Forgettable isn't one of them.

With the exception of the whole "the men can't fear what they can't see, so let them march into battle blindfolded" this wasn't as dumb as I expected, which unfortunately says more about my expectations, than this movie. Mostly it seemed oddly squeamish for such a violent subject. Hello moviemakers, Vlad Tepes didn't randomly skewer people through the torso, he had poles stuffed very precisely up their asses.

The acting and general pacing make this feel second rate, a story hitting plot points through an unoriginal arc. But it's not bad for what it is, passes the time and rarely descends into camp.

I wouldn't say this is the untold story of Dracula, in fact I felt like this is the typical story you hear when you research Vlad the Impaler. To be honest, this movie is getting a score so high because I had zero hope that this movie would be entertaining and it proved me wrong. I felt like the movie had some really cool action scenes, I especially love how Dracula moved quickly by turning into a swarm of bats...

Excellent work by Charles Dance and the cinematographer in building an atmosphere around this somewhat intriguing and completely inevitable Dracula origin story / reboot. Although it's entertaining enough, it really can't decide whether it wants to be Batman Begins, Lord of the Rings, or 300, so it has some trouble establishing a consistent tone. Both endings were pretty awful and dragged the score down.

I watched his film because I wanted some action and fantasy and that's what I got. I suggest you watch another movie if you want something like a well developed plot or story.

This film had some fine moments but overall was pretty underwhelming.I couldnt see any problem with Luke Evans' performance and was convincing as the leading man but I think he was handicapped by a below par script.Visually the film looked great shown through a grainy filter adding to the dark tone of the movie.Im very interested to see how this film will work in the planned Monsters Universe.I hope this isnt the last we see of Dracula because there are better stories to be told.

Thought I might like it, take the Dracula legend and strip it down to like two or three details. Middle ages guy somewhere in Romania is a vampire, That's about all that's left of Dracula here. But turn him into a good guy, that's kind of interesting, the problem with this movie is that the laziness that the writers approached the source material with carried over to the crap that they just made up. It's just not a very interesting story, and the action is pretty dull too.

It's hard to explain why this movie is alright without spoilers. Unlike many other action films like it, it managed to turn a thin plot into a more decently detailed craftier plot. Apart from the fact that the prince doesn't really have an army tho, that part is very cheesy. For me it's borderline "would or would not recommend", it didnt waste my time and while I wouldn't rewatch, I would however watch a sequel.

While not completely horrible, the movie was disappointing in the fact that it doesn't seem like they read Bram Stoker's Dracula really. Dracula never burnt in the sunlight, Nosferatu started that because they couldn't get the rights to Dracula. That alone took me out of the movie because they based a great amount of the plot on this fact that never existed in the original story. Maybe if it wouldn't have been the core element that drove most of the plot I could have overlooked it.

A fair version of the Dracula story. The character Dracula I've never found that interesting, but this origin story is humane and something I can understand. That being said, this is still just an easy digested fantasy action flick, with nice visuals in the likes of "Van Helsing". - Okay

In the end, the rancid hand of evil prevails. And the movie tells us that that's a good thing. While this back-to-the-drawing-board tale may not be (quite) as gruesome as others of its undead cinematic kith, it surely makes darkness and deadliness look good. Cool. Maybe even a little sparkly. A movie it's hard to summon much emotion about, positive or negative. It just kind of sits there like a lump, with generic medieval settings and generic action and generic dialogue and a generic gothic fantasy story. I mean, no one looks like they're reading off a script and I didn't spot any boom mics, but beyond that... eh. Hey, remember the Lord of the Rings trilogy? Man, those were some good goddamn flicks.

It doesn't help the fact that Universal tried to relive one of the greatest monsters ever by treating him like a sort of super soldier with vision and batbending abilities, not to mention the poor and rushed story about the turkish empire. Luke Evans is kind of sympathetic though, even covered in great masses of "somber" CGI. Also, why make a PG-13 Dracula film knowing that every gore scene will have to be softened?

This movie should be praised for finding a new and innovative way to make EACH action scene hard to follow. The acting feels as though each actor was competing to see who could be the worst in the scene (Besides for Charles Dance who deserves a better movie). Also the script was lazy and created rules for the world and ignored them just to add conflict to the story.

I read that Universal intends this film to be a reboot of their monster franchises. To that I can only say: FUCK, NO! I tend to be hard on new Holywood movies, but even by comparison with The Mummy films from the 90's Dracula Untold is a lousy humorless action fantasy that tries to win fans by throwing millions on visual effects. Making Dracula a tragic hero doesn't work, especially making him an action hero. Bela Lugosi is rolling is his grave right now.

Fun enough. The production is excellent, especially the costuming, and the CGI isn't half-bad. I completely buy Luke Evans as a leading man and think he has some presence on the screen. On the other hand, the design of Charles Dance's vampire character looks like that of a bad TV movie, and I don't really believe Dominic Cooper as a dominating Turkish warlord. The story was also so-so. The ending is stale, and we could've seen more struggles with Evans' character potentially breaking evil.

Distinctly 5/10; it's exactly the bare minimum needed to retell Dracula as a non-offensive franchise building tragic anti-hero. Evans is fine as a lead. Chuck D is Chuck D, so great. Dominic Cooper looks totally out of place as a blacked up Turk prince. The end scene set in modern day just seems tagged on as a "Dracula WILL return!" effot. I can't wait (lie) for when Universal do their Marvel style "Monsters Avengers" crossover!

Dracula gets the superhero origin story treatment, and it's okay. The writers had to know what they were doing when they settled on the phrase "the darkest night" to use during the ending, though. How could they not?

What made this movie bad wasn't so much the story as the unwillingness of Luke Evans to get dirty into the fighting. The fighting all appeared overscripted, stilted, unrealistic, and shot to cover up for incompetent acting. If one man defeating 1,000 could be believable, this movie totally failed at making it so. He always looked pathetically small and not that good at swordplay.

Much Much Much better then expected. Much better then it should've been. I started this movie thinking that I'd hate it but instead I found myself thoroughly entertained. Quite entertaining film with a different twist on the Dracula back story. The effects and the look of the flick are quite well done. The acting is performed well with Evans being a pretty good choice for Vlad. The story does become a bit too predictable which is the biggest flaw here.

Outdoors and historical events appeal to me, thus this movie is a thumbs up. Objectively, I'll still score this highly, since the cinematography, costume design, plot and sound effects are well done. The only glaring flaw was when Dracula waved away the clouds to unhide the sun to kill the vampires he'd created, without any one of those vampires running to a dark corner. MY SCORING: 99-96=Great; 95-90=Very good; 89-85=Good; 84-80=So-so; 79-70=Boring; Below 70=Forget it

There are my own words that I use in daily life. And only my friends can understand what I mean. when I want to use the word "shit" but I cannot use it because there are kids near me, so I use "dracula untold" instead. For example, I mean this cake is ''shit''. I say "this cake is dracula untold". While my friends understand, the kids don't understand. I don't have anything else to say about this movie like '' dracula untold''.

Dracula untold seems to have captured the B-movie flavour of 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' and the energy of a 'Taken' film. We're treated to a solid performance by Luke Evans and plenty of special effects, but some of the adventurous cinematography falls a bit flat and the lighting lets the film down. Overall, an enjoyable film (unless you're a 'Nosferatu' die-hard) that is a little lacklustre. Tangentially, a sequel could prove interesting should Evans and Dance remain on board.

If you don't get hung up on the title of this movie you'll experience a competent but not remarkable anti-Ottoman propaganda story that skewers (stakes?) the "a father should do anything for his family" trope. Blindfolding troops so they can't see a demon is the kind of swag Mehmed the Conqueror would come up with if he had ever found himself in a vampire movie.

Marvelous film quality and acting, but the writing is idiotic. Excellent music, and some of the highly overused special effects were good. Plot and story problems make it laughable and subtracts deeply from the enjoyment. Subtract the garbage and it would be enjoyable. The ending was quite lame. This is what happens when you rely too heavily on CGI, and fail to tell a good story.

Despite really diverting from Stoker's original character (as well as history in general), Dracula Untold is fun if you're a fan of the genre. Evans always delivers his A material in roles like this, the story is predictable but still well delivered, and I actually like how the action scenes utilize all of Dracula's abilities. I admit the ending is illogical, but at least it's a way better re-imagining than I, Frankenstein.
