I spent the entire film trying to convince myself that Sandor wasn't just being played by a time-displaced Benicio Del Toro. I didn't entirely succeed.

It lacks Lugosi but oddly enough I find it otherwise better than the first Dracula...

This vampire is sucking all the pacing - there’s probably hundreds of lesbian essays about this movie - the subtext, not a gang of lesbians writing essays

Better than Dracula, at least, even if that's not saying much. It's an interesting take on the vampire mythos with more overt tragedy and sympathy fir the curse. The script could have used more work, though. The film lacks good pacing and no character here has anywhere the presence or mystery of Dracula.

A fine universal horror film. Gloria Holden makes a great leading lady. The idea of this film is rather unique for the time as well: a vampire trying to turn away from a life of vampirism.

A certain narrative weight is achieved through the tragic nature of its protagonist, even with how thinly its developed.

No Lugosi, but a well-done, entertaining movie. It's stagy, but the men working on pictures in those days often knew how to write for the stage

Decently established characters and I did like how it took the main dude on a journey from being a scientifically minded upper crust British psychiatrist dude to being in Transylvania having to invade Dracula’s castle. However the movie has one big problem, which is that most of the first hour or so of its 75 minute runtime is very slow and boring!

This is a good early vampire movie, does the job well and closes out in memorable fashion.

Picking up from where "Dracula" left off, this original sequel avoids being a rehash and is instead much more grounded in reality. Arguably more of a mystery flick with film noir elements than a horror movie, it nails and benefits from the refreshing tonal change. Janet is a promising supporting character and the Countess's ambivalence - her desire to fight the obsession which overpowers her - is a noteworthy plot point that broadens the film's scope even if the end is a little too conservative.

Oddly, this feels rushed-to-production to get a sequel out (although it was five years since the original). The person in charge of the "atmosphere" got a lot right: the sets are fine, and there's some good dark and bright contrasts. But the script is weak and most of the cast look like they're trying to figure out if they'll be B-movie stars for the rest of their careers.

A Filha de Drácula estreava há 85 anos nos EUA. Boa pequena sequência do universo dos monstros da Universal, climática e atmosférica, o contexto queer dá um toque especial, especialmente com o Código Hays já vigente. Box Ataúde Macabro.

Some may find the comedic scenes detracting from the horror, but for me it just kept things varied & interesting. The first 20 minutes are unpredictable w/ the lead's unexpected behaviors creating a compelling mystery. Even once the surprises stop, her inner struggle makes her far more interesting than her dad & the romantic tension between the likably uptight hero & his surprisingly independent-for-the-time assistant is charming & fun. Unsurprisingly, the alleged lesbian subtext is overstated.

I just couldn't really get into it. I found that my attention kept wandering as I watched this. There is also a large amount of out of place humor throughout the film. The whole thing just seems more soap opera than horror.

Dracula was the worst of the big three of Universal's horror franchises and least deserving continuation. Interestingly enough, Universal's solution for making a crappy movie's sequel is to take the title character out of the movie, that's got to be one of the worst ideas I've ever heard.

The Dracula franchise continues. This time from a female point of view with Dracula's Daughter! Gloria Holden plays the part of the vampire. And they reuse a lot of the same sets and Edward Van Sloan is back as Prof. Von Helsing, being accused of murder of Count Dracula who nobody in London would believe was 100s of years old and a dangerous old bat. Then the daughter turns up and continues the family business of sucking peoples blood. Might have been interesting, but most of this is quite dull.

The bisexual overtones of Hillyer's Dracula installment give the film some life, though mostly Dracula's Daughter, at a mere hour and ten minutes, is a drag to get through.

Next in line after Bela Lugosi's 1931 Dracula in Universal's 'Classic' vampire movies this is quite atmospheric but 'tame' even, in my opinion, by the standards of the day (1936). It's like they wanted to make a sexy female vampire film but wouldn't even show any biting scenes which just takes off too much of any edge even when they've built up some nice tension occasionally.

This brooding film is stylish and creates its own strange mood through imaginative sets, art design, music, and compelling performances by Holden as the unhappy undead and Pichel as her dour but dedicated servant.
