Like Marketa Lazarova, Dragon's Return combines classic folklore with the techniques of radical modernism to mine timeless truths about human nature and the roots of social conflict transplanted into the long distant past. Unlike M.L, D.R doesn't feature a plot of labyrinthine complexity; it's a spare narrative that is given complexity through a disorienting use of form. The landscapes are stark, alien and mysterious, and Lukavsky makes a formidable impression. It feels timeless.

Grecner: "At the Pesaro Festival, where I was invited with the film, it didn't get shown due to the actions of young revolutionaries. Even Jean-Luc Godard, my idol at that time, joined the students in breaking up the festival. Petrovic's great film I EVEN MET HAPPY GYPSIES didn't get shown either. Godard's actions and his infantile approach to a nonsensical 'revolution' seriously disillusioned me, without mentioning the bitterness I felt on returning home with an unscreened film in my luggage."
