Dreamland

Occasionally beautifully shot, but also emotionally limp. While I think it has some strange stylistic choices sometimes, for the most part it's well shot and pleasant to look at. But it really went hard to make us feel for these people and it was incredibly difficult to do so. And then it dragged: I was an hour in and I looked at the time and realized that I still had half an hour. So that's a big reason why this is really close to not even getting a mild recommendation.

It's not hard to like a movie with Margot Robbie. This movie is a cautionary tale of a young man with romantic notions about bank robbers. It was easy for him to go astray living in circumstances so bleak and being attracted to an incredibly beautiful and mysterious woman who needed his help. Good performances all around. Worth watching.

A bit slow but ok.

I think what most hindered Dreamland was the third perspective narration that adds _no_ real insight to the main characters' inner workings. Cutting the tacked-on narration would have benefitted this movie greatly and given some leeway to more complex interpretations.
