Duck Season

The longer it goes the more it loses grips with its stylized naturalism and becomes conventionally trite. The characters are "developed" by adding sudden revelations that don't get meaningfully explored and the narrative becomes less plausible, and in my view less interesting, at every turn. Even so, it has enough little sparks and uniqueness that it's not bad viewing with low expectations.

I just saw this little movie from Mexico. It's black and white and I would estimate the budget at around 10 grand. Not much happens during the movie as it deals with 4 people in an apartment during one Sunday. I guess the main subject is growing up... But it's a really touching and a very, very funny movie.

Low-key "hang-out" film doesn't have anything particularly profound to say (and bears a striking resemblance to THE BREAKFAST CLUB at times), but is made agreeable by a fine and convincing cast, who certainly hold your attention through a narrative that may have benefited from a little more conflict. B&W cinematography helps add a little extra dramatic weight; ditto the pleasant jazzy score.

Easily one of the best modern mexican movies, no sex, black and white. The first time I saw it I found it boring and uncomplete but I was still young, later in life after watching clerks every piece just fell in place...
