East Is West

Here's a rare Edward G. Robinson movie! The first one he played an oriental. He would later do it much better in The Hatchet Man (1932). In East Is West he tries to buy "Chinagirl" Lupe Velez as his lover. However he's got competition from a white guy that loves her - Lew Ayres. And it's a really poor variation of a much used story. Even Robinson was pretty bad, so it's one of the Robinson performances one want to forget. Velez as a oriental was better, but awfully naive.
