East of the River

Two guys, one good one bad.... and a reformed girl in between. A scenario which is only mildly pulled off. Garfield is alright, but he had to see himself be put in the shadow of the two women in the film, like his love interest Brenda Marshall pulling off a solid 'good girl who could play hard' role. Who really steals the film is Marjorie Rambeau as the mother that had raised them. A fine immigrant portrayal. So there are glimpses of a hearty story, just not fined tuned for anything big.
