Surprisingly deep drama with a great performance by Victor Mature and a thoughtful plot. The end is definitely hampered by the Production Code-- divorce is terrible, but slapping her a few times is a-okay-- but otherwise it's a solid little number.

Solid drama that attempts to deal with some of the messy complexities of life and love within the restrictions imposed by The Hays Code, which others have rightly noted acts as a veritable straightjacket restraining expression. It also suffers somewhat from limited gender representations endemic to the period, but Tourneur does effectively convey the disappointment and frustrations of these characters, and it's handsomely mounted.

Good movie, despite being one of the rare films that features two of the Golden Turkey Award nominees for Worst Actor

"Easy Living" is a melodrama with pro football as a backdrop. The movie doesn't age well, and several of the scenes could offend a modern viewer.

Kind of highlights my frustration with many films of the 40s... Its got the potential for great drama... Plenty of conflict, personal struggle, infidelity... But the restrictions of the time mean much more is implied than explored. And, again a fault I've found in the decade, the ending is hilariously abrupt: Spoilers: he slaps his cheating wife good and they all live happily ever after presumably with fully shattered dreams.

I wasn't sold at first, but it grew on me. It became how to handle a greedy wife and Victor Mature was the one to so. Lizabeth Scott did her job as the unlikable wife credibly. But it's not like one can hate Lizabeth Scott. The rest set a fine background with pro-football and Lucille Ball nearby. Didn't love it as much as I'd hoped, since I usually dig Mature, and he was good, but something about this one felt it lacked the x-factor.

Cogent, surprisingly meaty film. Featuring one of Mature's most accomplished performances.
