Sort of doesn't make sense, but the surf rock score is fun and it has a lot of amusing moments.

Great, great fun. Probably the Godzilla film that insults your intelligence the least. Also, he fights a giant lobster, and they play catch with boulders, too. Um. I guess I have to take back what I said about not insulting your intelligence, hm?

Cheesy, campy fun. The lighthearted soundtrack makes it feel like Gilligan's Island or the Adam West Batman series. Chekhov's machete turned out not to even find use as a weapon.

it's incredibly silly. there's not much monster action, but what's there is fun. i actually enjoyed the cheesy adventure story.

Hilarious at certain points. Loved that the guy carried off by the balloon landed EXACTLY where he needed to, on another island, and immediately knew where he was and that his brother was around.

Boy, what a fool's errand this was. I think Fukuda more or less understood what makes a good Honda-style Godzilla movie, but didn't really bother to go through with it. I'll admit, I'm a big sucker for the late 60's sci-fi aesthetic goin' on, but I don't want it in my bad Godzilla movie.

Call of Cthulhu, Temple of Doom, Scooby Doo, James Bond Villains and pop art had a baby. The human parts of the story (sorry, "story") were OK so the limited screen time for rubber-suited actors stumbling about wasn't a huge issue. My 'Godzilla is a drunk' theory still holds water as he's seen here sleeping off an epic bender. Speaking of water, Ebirah is awesome and the moment that surf rock score starts while they play beach volleyball with a rock is wonderfully surreal. Oh, how I laughed.

There is something calming about the island setting. And Ebirah has a unique and fun design. That being said, the lower budget is starting to show. As is the franchises continual dumbing down for the kids.

Saw the MST3k of this, so that might've effected the score slightly.

May be the most entertaining one in the (long) series.

You know, as much as I want to rag on this movie, boy does just thinking about it take me back and make me want to watch it again.

Preeetty dumb. Funny at times. Apparently was originally written for King Kong's character, which explains a few uncharacteristic scenes.

The first entry not directing by Honda in the series, but the enjoyability of this doesn't suffer from it. The family friendly adventure making up the backstory is well paced. And when that does get in a lump the movie knows how to inject some momentum by having some kajiu action. The highlight of this is Godzilla's battle wit Ebirah, including some funny beach volleyball with rocks and an impressive under water fight. The music lets us know we have arrived fully into the sixties.

The first one in awhile to really feel fresh. We've had lots of scientists, journalists, army guys, and inventors, but this is the first one with a real ragtag team of everyman thieves and bums. The fights hit a sweet spot where they're ridiculous enough to be funny (boulder ball game, Godzilla dancing to the surf rock) but still serious enough to be an actual threat.

One of the weaker Godzillas IMO since it focuses way too much on the boring human plots with minimal monster screentime. But some fun, groovy '60s elements and a GIANT LOBSTER make up for some of it.
