Eden

It's not bad for a film I had never heard of. The story is well controlled and perhaps not as intense as other films in this genre, possibly because it's based on a true story. The performances aren't particularly outstanding either, but it's probably the best performance I've seen Jamie Chung put in. The film's unlikely to leave an impression, but it's not a complete waste of time.

It was quite strong actually in my opinion. All the leads were good, especially Matt O'Leary.

A great movie but incredibly hard to watch. This film tackles the controversial topic of human trafficking. A young Korean-American girl is kidnapped and put in the sex trade. She has to gain the trust of her captures to find a way out of the system. Jamie Chung gives a heart wrenching performance as "Eden". Beau Bridges plays a great sleazeball as the leader of the trafficking organization. Matt O'Leary also does great. The movie is tense and sometimes makes you stomach churn.

Very heavy subject matter but well made.

Disappointing in its reliance on a rather formulaic structure to tell its story, Eden nevertheless is almost captivating enough to recommend, especially to fans of the genre. Too bad. I would have really liked this if it adopted a more unconventional narrative. The acting is decent but nobody really stands out.

A story about human trafficking and a few of the violent scumbags behind the scenes. A young Korean girl is abducted and must adapt to sex work or die. There was too much prison-like processing and not enough of the raw reality and brutality. It's a sex movie without sex scenes. Some of it did not seem credible. It is worthwhile as a spotlight on a horrific problem but was not entirely satisfying as an exposé on the subject.

True or not, it's still a good movie.

Not much suspense here, but Jamie Chung carries the mood of this movie with a great fuckin' performance.
