Now this was fun: The timeloop zaniness of Groundhog Day meets the military scifi alien-fighting action of Starship Troopers meets the underdog-becomes-badass training montages of The Karate Kid. And while it's not as classic as those three films, it is a damn entertaining blend. It's also nice to have a genre blockbuster flick that isn't a superhero movie. In strictly perverted conclusion, Emily Blunt's arms and perpetual sheen of sweat in this movie look fucking fantastic.

Groundependence Day...um...Edge of Tomorrow is a pretty decent sci-fi/action flick with the whole time loop thing fleshed out enough to make it seem far less overused than it really is. Just blame it on alien technology, that always works, right? This one has enough variation to keep the loop from growing tired, and enough splosions to be able to rest assured that both Michael Bay and myself could be seen in the theater audience, only not together, definitely not together.

A sharp, funny romp that makes good on the promise of its premise - and that alone merits a recommendation. Cruise is on decent form and Blunt makes for an excellent co-star. Comparisons to other movies, some of them better, are rife and inevitable, but Edge of Tomorrow is an enjoyable enough ride to be judged and rewarded on its own terms. Pleasant surprise.

This is how a high-concept sci-fi action film is done: by mining all of the premise's possibilities in each conflict, scene, and act with as much imagination as possible. Tom Cruise continues his brand as an independent everyman standing up against illegitimate authority. And Doug Liman, a director whose early work was indebted to the nonlinear stories of Pulp Fiction and Run, Lola, Run, messes with timelines in an energetic way. Great fun, even with its cheesy final shot.

Paying tribute to/piggybacking/ripping off 'Groundhog Day', it (like, say, 'The Adjustment Bureau') does insultingly little with an excellent sci-fi concept. I had no fun with it at all. And I usually love time loop stories ('Lola rennt', 'Source Code'). Just not the almost unbearably stupid (how the F did Blunt know that she couldn't go back?!) and unnecessarily monotonous ones. So what should have been right down my alley instead took a giant, smelly dump right on my lawn. Over and over again.

Edge of Tomorrow remarkably manages to rip off so many films and video games whilst feeling refreshingly original also. Obviously you can argue that theres plot holes, as with any film of this kind. But it's smartly edited and it moves at such a rampant pace that you don't have time to dissect or question the flaws. Cruise & Blunt carry the film well and it's Cruise's best Sci/Fi to date. Visually its spectacular and the action is some of the craziest and most exciting I've ever experienced.

Pleasantly surprised that I loved it this much! Edge of Tomorrow had me under the impression that it would be another one of 'those' sci/fi films but it was actually frequently entertaining and the performances are pretty good! Probably not for everybody but it's direction, writing, and visuals make it one of the best science fiction movies in years and I dug the humor that was thrown in there every now and then. Worth the watch for sure.

Surprisingly enjoyable, though it should've ended 3 minutes earlier. Edge of Tomorrow offers all the things a sci-fi-action movie with Tom Cruise should: Tom Cruise getting killed a million times, and no wait that about covers it.

One of the best sci-fi movies I've seen. It takes a tired concept, puts a nice twist on it, and churns out a film that follows a predictable path without any real bumps. Even the Hollywood happy ending felt refreshing, despite being anything but.

I really dug this. It's smart, and thrilling almost the entire time. Blunt is lovely and her and Cruise have chemistry. The action is really intense, and it actually feels like the aliens are a real threat as opposed to just being things to shoot. The ending is a little Hollywood, but I guess that's to be expected. I also like Sci-Fi movies with a sword in them, I don't know why.

Fun. Tight script and extremely well-directed. Like Cruise's previous sci-fi vehicle Oblivion this borrows elements from a dozen films, but what seemed cliched and derivative there seems fresh and fun here. It takes Groundhog Day and combines it with elements of Starship Troopers and videogaming to produce a fun blockbuster. Cruise shows again why he's still a leading man and Blunt is an excellent sidekick. It knows what it wants to deliver (big-screen action and humour) and does so perfectly.

A war film about the trauma of continually living through battle, while everybody around you dies. The fact that this is given enough levity to make it successful on its merits as a sci-fi action comedy is an impressive balancing act.

If there is such a thing as "dumb done smartly", I think this movie is that. Don't take "dumb" as a criticism per se; I love a lot of dumb sci-fi, y'all know my sci-fi bias, but here, I actually think the "dumb" elements are intentional and crafted. The leads definitely have chemistry. Happy I saw it in 3D, totally worth it, as the visuals were great. I'll always forgive wonky plot points because sci-fi. It doesn't reach the level of other great "dumb sci-fi", but it was undeniably entertaining.

This year first surprisingly good action movie was Doug Liman "Edge of Tomorrow". the premise and plot were clearly inspired from Bill Murray famous classic "Groundhog Day" to "Matrix Revolution". a rehash and homage at the same time to both popular B-Movie and mainstream video game. Doug Liman directed this like a geeky fan that have just played "Halo" and craze about it for months. it was fun to watch and a brief concept of multiverse and time paradox showed that its not all about brawn.

Edge of Tomorrow is a seriously fun sci-fi action film. It's smart, it has a couple of good characters, its action is fantastic and well-shot, and it offers a couple of surprises that help make it feel fresh. No, it's not just "Groundhog Day with aliens." It's more than that. It is its own thing. It is worth seeing, perhaps even a couple of times.

Say what you will about the ending, this movie was amazing. This movie continues to sit on my mind days after watching it. It's not only a really fun action packed experience, but the story itself and the relationship between these characters are great. The only problems are the ending (which doesn't bother me too much) and the secondary characters sort of get played up, but aren't really developed. Also holy hell Emily Blunt.......god damn you John Krasinski!

Turn your brain off to enjoy this. Emily Blunt is especially awesome. Tom Cruise puts in a good performance as well. The CGI enemies were disappointing. The story lacked credibility, but was entertaining anyway. Some of the futuristic weaponry was very cool, and they did a reasonable job of telling this convoluted story with huge potholes. Many scenes were played over and over again. Also the ending was too convenient and made no sense at all. Worth watching despite its many obvious flaws.

Every aspiring writer should take note of this film honestly. If you're just going to shamelessly rip off something like most films do nowadays, do this. Tom Cruise is incredible. Born movie star, one of the best ever. The ending doesn't satiate you too much but despite that it's still fantastic.

Tom Cruise plays himself again except he's fighting metallic alien squid spiders this time. He is imbued with powers to reset into the past like an xbox game. We see the same scenes played out in different ways with different outcomes some of which have Cruise dying hilariously. The exo-suits look lame and it seems Hollywood struggles with getting these details correct. There's a tough action woman with a big anime sword because not surprisingly this is based on a Japanese author's work.

on the one hand: light genre fare with forgettable characters. on the other hand: lovely sweaty emily blunt in combat boots. ///////// re-watch edit: there's a message here about (making you aware of) only getting one life, and that if you practice something enough, you can become a sort of honed human being (in whatever realm you favour). That sounds sort of trite when I write it out, but it had a certain punch while (re)watching the movie. Also, the music is fab.

Slick, big, loud, and full of explosions--I always find myself overrating stuff like this, especially around summertime. This presents us with a few cool ideas, though, mainly Cruise's curse/superpower that enables him to restart his mission after he's been killed, as if he's a human video game character who has to replay his level until he beats it. Whether that hip, edgy conceit is able to sustain this two-hour film, I'll leave for you to decide. I thought it was kind of awesome, though.

Despite all the hate he gets, Cruise is a movie star that puts a lot of genuine effort and physical energy into his roles. Even if a movie is bad, Cruise is always there giving 110%, and EoT is no different. Let's also talk about Emily Blunt: she's a badass and could easily become the next big female action hero. So, even if the story eventually loses its allure and devolves into a generic third-act, the duo here is strong. Note: the script is a lot more goofy and fun than you might expect.

When I was a kid, I spent a lot of time playing NES video games, so I can understand how annoying it must have been for Cruise not to be able to save progress, especially when you have only one life, and each death means restarting from the very beginning. Playing in two player mode just makes it harder, because then you are responsible for the n00b girlfriend not to feel left out. 3-D shooter movie with great graphics, but I always preferred RPGs with character development and story to follow.

Tom Cruise goes toe to toe with the squiddies from The Matrix and their brain slug from Starship Troopers. Emily Blount goes toe to toe with giving a crap. She is not suited for action movies with love interests twice her age. Brendan Gleeson showed up, which is nice. They didn't really have a part for him, but whatever. Bill Paxton is pretty much wasted although it's nice to see him again. He was a grunt in Aliens but he's worked his way up to dick Sergeant.

In both premise and style, this is Starship Troopers blended with Groundhog Day, an experiment I still can't believe was ever greenlit much less successfully executed. It's got Verhoeven-like wit with its satire of American military culture, or at least the way it's portrayed in its own media; the main character is himself a pitchman forced to confront the carnage he sold to the public. The death gags are hilarious thanks to really solid timing, not to mention the irreverent electronic score.

Edge of tomorrow is a kinetic sci-fi action film that uses the premise of respawning and continues usually only seen the in the realm of Video Games. I liked the feel of the film and that it had kind of a WW2 vibe but with aliens instead of Nazis. While edge of tomorrow is an action film, there's a good chunk of humor running throughout the film which helps keep it from getting too dark. Tom Cruise is decent and I liked how he had to learn to be the hero & grows as a character. Emily Blunt

Surprisingly great. Decently directed action for once in a recent blockbuster, and Tom Cruise's performance reminds us why we continue to tolerate him. It could be seen as a validation of the video-gamification of movies, but probably is more a testament to the lasting potency of the Groundhog Day concept. Rather than compare it to that, though, I was reminded of Looper; a stunningly good, smartly made time travel film, with a few glossed over plot holes that keep it from being masterful.

It's not that this light and fun film about an alien apocalypse doesn't deserve a happy ending, but something about this one feels off. Great action, after a rough start. Cool sci-fi idea that an alien super-evolved species found a way to send memories back through time as a survival instinct whenever it's in danger (alphas getting killed). A smart, well-executed version of "Groundhog Day" that nicely balances between action and story. The relationship between the two main characters lessens in quality at a specific point, the ending is surprisingly weak, and there's a few logic loopholes but it's been a while since I enjoyed an action-focused movie this much.

Yet another variation on 12:01 PM (1990), this is a moderately pleasing (if seemingly inevitably militaristic) time-waster, somewhat let down by what seems an insufficiently thought-out third act: the transition to an unconvincing "band of brothers" format, the dark and grimy visuals of the nighttime-assault action sequences, and the dubious logic of the perfunctory happy ending all fail to capitalise on what had mostly seemed a carefully constructed if videogamey piece of generic entertainment.

Exoskeletons always means a couple of extra points for me, the plot is interesting but implied too many thing to make it believable, also the "bad guys" where scary but didn't have feelings so i missed the emotional connection. Overall entertaining but it's not going to become classic sci-fi.

If you put Starship Troopers and Groundhog Day in a blender, you get Edge of Tomorrow. Since I love both, I had a blast with this. Though I'll make no claim that this is a great film, it's really-really fun.

This film borrows heavily from other movies with some original elements thrown in. The script does have some interesting moments and the cast does well with the material. Overall I would recommend this film.
