You'd think if there were only eight of these "legged freaks," they wouldn't have been so hard to kill. That's why punctuation is important.

It might be some of the worst CGI I've ever seen, and I don't think it affected my enjoyment of this at all. Mind you I stood and cheered in the theater when they dressed a car like a spider and drove it at kids in a baseball field in The Giant Spider Invasion. It was as silly as it needed to be and it was a fun watch for a ten year old and a man in his forties with the emotional maturity of a ten year old.

It starts out trying to scare you but once the spiders have appeared the movie completely reverses into a comedy and, to be honest, I found that to be most agreeable. After all, once the initial scare has warn off it's hard to keep such a thing going so switching to becoming a comedy was an bold and welcomed move. While not an excellent film it was definitely entertaining.

I'm glad that it didn't take itself too seriously, just unfortunately a lot of the jokes fell flat for me, for at least half the movie. It redeemed itself a bit after but it's a too little too late. But I do really like the conspiracy theory guy, he gave the movie most of its humour. Almost a recommendation.

Starts out as the ligthearted, fairly inventive over the top monster horror parody it has to be, but loses steam around the middle. The final half hour drags on fovever.

Fun and stupid. Some scenes of pure hilarity. Enormous spiders that can crush cars and come up out of trapdoors underneath solid concrete.

Itchy. So itchy. Letting my son ride his bike alone to go hang out in Tom Noonan's spider filled trailer knowing he will probably be fine. A great creature feature

Not scary in the least and nowhere near as funny as it wants to be, but mildly entertaining. Aside: Kari Wuhrer looks damn hot in that sheriffs outfit. My theory on how she got the job - stripper with amnesia. Must have bumped her head while in costume, woke and assumed she was a real sheriff.

For my money, Eight Legged Freaks is a pretty good time. If you like Tremors or Gremlins, or the monster movies of the '50s, you're likely to have a good time with this one. It skirts the line between being an homage to these types of B-movies and being worse than them, but I thought it fell on the right side. It is funny, sometimes scary, and as soon as the spiders start doing their "kill everything in sight" thing, is incredibly entertaining. I suggest giving it a watch.

For about an hour, this blatant GREMLINS/ARACHNOPHOBIA knock-off seems to make all the right moves - ridiculous monsters who are scary, but not without a sense of humour, and performances and characterisations that gleefuly wink at the audience. Sadly runs aground at the halfway mark, and starts to take itself too seriously, and becomes just another overdone monster movie. *SPOILER* Didn't know you could make a plaster mould of a cats face by shoving it as hard as you can against the dry wall!

Spoofing old horror films is not a new idea. Of all of the film that have taken a whack at it, this is not one of the successes. If you want to see a funny spider-filled horror/comedy, see Arachnaphopia, because Eight Legged Freaks isn't worth anyone's time. Crap!

Eight Legged Freaks is a 2002 horror directed by Ellory Elkayem and stars David Arquette, Kar and Scott Terra. The plot concerns a collection of spiders that are exposed to toxic waste, causing them to grow to gigantic proportions and begin killing and harvesting. The film was dedicated to the memory of Pilar Seurat, the mother of producer Dean Devlin, who died of cancer the previous year.

Amiable homage to 50's sci-fi b-movies probably plays better now than it did in 2002, although it's still very obviously informed by films like Mars Attacks and Starship Troopers, except with less ambition or desire to subvert the form. When spider mayhem is finally unleashed on a small town, the effect is not unlike a witless Joe Dante in its playful mix of horror and humour. It's let down by its lack of cleverness, but the action packed finale in a deserted mall hits all the right notes.

Pretty good old school style creature feature. The film moves along at good pace and is well shot. Has two of the hottest actresses in it and they do a fine job with their roles. Some of the effects are a little weak at times, but the campy humour keeps things light.

Surprisingly fun. That said, it's still not particularly good, but it entertains, and was far better than the shitfest I'd preconceived it to be. Takes the piss out of 50s sci-fi/monster movies while at the same time managing to be exciting in its own right. It can be outrageously funny, but too often it just feels derivative. Still, there are some decent laughs to be had, and a couple frightful sights as well. Empty fluff entertainment, just good enough to be recommendable.
