Someone in my theater screamed. Fun movie, no one in it can do the New England accent. Thomasin McKenzie perfectly cast anyway, and Anne Hathaway is doing some of her best work ever. Siobhan Fallon Hogan is in this!

Quite possibly the most conventional way you could have adapted Moshfegh's book. It completely defangs Eileen as a character and it's way glossier than this story should be. The score also felt overbearing, especially in the last stretch. Does have my kind of Christmas vibes though!

Wish it wouldn't have wrapped up so quickly after the twist, which got to me (props to Hathaway's delivery and the script for that bomb). McKenzie is so wonderful, being sympathetic at first and then great in her heel turn. Hathaway basically matches her but with a different energy. Good one-two punch. Feels like an old psychological thriller but not gimmicky. A very good tale of obsession.

Despite its flaws, “Eileen” is an enjoyable watch with unexpected thrills and twists. Oldroyd continues to deliver stories with complex female characters that surprise audiences in many ways. The film’s stunning visuals and captivating performances from Hathaway and Mckenzie make it worth a watch.

There was one surprisingly good and well-written scene in this schlocky, unimpressive, and uninspired film; it's near the end and the sincerity of it shocked me a bit, especially after how dull and shallow it had all been up until that point. The plot is very predictable, besides one or two twists. What even happened with Anne Hathaway's character at the end?!

Reminds a lot of Atom Egoyan!

Basically a Todd Haynes remake of Kaurismaki's "Match Factory Girl", with an ending from... well, I won't spoiler, but it's a trope. Not bad though.

Very cool genre-shifting movie with a great lead performance. The pace of the last act was a bit too quick for me, but that's about the only criticism I've got.

Yes, there are crime elements but for the majority of its runtime Eileen is simply a character study. I think this is one of the rare example of a movie actually needing to be longer. They could have definitely fleshed out stuff with the prison and the father more, as the movie mostly focuses on the relationship between McKenzie and Hathaway's characters. Overall it's a good quick watch. Hathaway is the real standout along with an absolutely beautiful score, and well done production design.

Eileen does a lot of things right, the period setting, the ice cold little New England town, the desperate loneliness of the title character that soaks up the tiniest bit of human contact like a dried-out sponge. Though maybe it's that it just doesn't feel as grimy as the novel, or that it gets to the point almost mercifully quickly... Something about it just feels a little too pat. But still, glad they made this, and the interrogation scene is chilling.
