I'm not sure why I watched it but I liked Allen's & D'Onofrio's performances.

It's not good, it's not bad, it's just a story being told in the cheesiest way possible. Looks amateurish, everyone in the movie is silly, and for some weird reason it's classified under comedy when it's a drama about a police siege with dead people and stuff.

Siege drama bizarrely marketed as a comedy, though the film never manages to find a sure tone. The series of events leading to the siege make no sense, especially relating to the motivations of D'Onofrio and Grimes; kinda wants to be DOG DAY AFTERNOON but does none of the character work required, even shoe-horning in some limp satirical jabs at the media. Sole successful element is Allen's impressive dramatic performance, but ultimately the screenplay lets him down.

Abysmal writing makes it impossible for the actors to excel. The situation with the absurd bumbling police department was at times moderately amusing. However the overall story just sucks the fun out of watching it. I particularly disliked the ridiculous unconvincing ending. The star power of Jessica Alba and Tim Allen was almost entirely wasted. A few good performances. Overall the story progression is annoying and much of the dialog is too stupid or dumbed down to be credible or enjoyable.

{{ CHRISTMAS MOVIE MARATHON - DAY 1 }} Where the hell was Jesse Pinkman? I was waiting the entire movie for him to show up!!!!!! Obviously kidding, but this could have used some Breaking Bad mojo, because it wasn't very good. Much like Die Hard (which is referenced in the film) this just takes place on Christmas Eve and has nothing to do with the holiday. D'Onofrio's performance would be the only reason to watch this. He's good in everything, even when the material is bad.

Too many boring clichés, too much dumbness, too much forced plot, too much cheesy writing, too much tonal hopping, too much failing at pulling of a Die-Hard-type christmas movie or anything even remotely close to that.

Not at all a comedy. The humour is along the lines of someone smoking next to a nonsmoking sign. Plot of the movie has been seen a million times before. That being said acting is decent, but still a movie I won't remember at Christmas.

Tim Allen and Christmas go as well together as children and cancer, so my expectations were low going into this, but he was actually one of the few good things going on here. The film's main crime is how dull it is, and takes way too long for any semblance of a plot to appear. I enjoy leisurely paced movies, but they need to be well written to carry you along. This isn't.

Pretty predictable and manipulative, but despite many cliches and the fact that the timeline seemed off (shouldn't this movie be about a Desert Storm Vet? I guess Vietnam is still just the war writers use if they want to write about a certain kind of vet?) I actually found this movie appealing in its own way.

Outside of a couple laughs, generally by Tim Allen who is the star here, it doesn't really succeed as a comedy. The plot is not uncommon for a movie, but the reason these people are in there is a pretty decent setup. I enjoyed this a little more than I expected despite the shortcomings as a comedy because I actually felt something for these characters. By the end it made me a little emotional. So not a great flick by any means but another fun addition to Netflix.

Had some laughs, this should have gone full blown comedy yet it abandons that midway through for some reason.

what was this trying to be? it tries and fails to be a Coen-esque thriller, a light comedy, a dark comedy, a romantic flick, a christmas movie, a siege movie ... despite a decent cast the writing and direction is abysmal and results in a dreadfully long and boring 90 mins of your time being wasted.

This film has some good moments. The script is to predictable at times, it brings the movie down. The cast try to do a good job here but the script ultimately lets them down. Overall this film is disappointing.

I don't know. There are bits and pieces about El Camino Christmas (2017) and its corrupt cop farce in the modern west that works. It's got some fun characters, absurdities and so on, but I won't claim the mix blended naturally together.

This showed up my NF spotlight page for some reason. xmas movie sure? good Xmas movie? yikes. I like a lot of the cast, but this is a turd. Brutal decision making by bumbling and/or drunk morons. I suppose that's the point. Not for me. 3.3
