Some good drama weighed down by a few odd choices, such as the non-linear first act. The best scenes are by far when the main characters are alone - their self-actualization occurs outside of society, something few queer-centered films manage to address, rather obsessing on otherness. Efron's face is wonderfully expressive, and I quite liked André's constant glare.

Pretty slick filmmaking and with a reasonably engrossing drama, although at times it seems to be obtuse just for the sake of being so. Social commentary and depth are underdeveloped for the sake of dramatic tension a bit too much, taking away from the film's oomph value.

The love story was really desperate since the director was lost in too cryptic structure of the story. I was highly interested of the title but it did not offer much extra for the main plot. Ines Efron and Mariela Vitale did they parts nice. The first one with acting, the latter with voluptuous body.

Efron is too pathetic, though there is some chemistry so it was mildly compelling while the two leads are in scenes together and less so when they're not.

Top badass moment? Lala goes in search of her lover, who's been 'rented' from the prison by a powerful 'businessman' for 'entertainment'. His house is protected by armed guards. Love is blind, but deliberately walking into a situation that you clearly have no way of getting out off (unless you're Batman) is top grade badass. 1 cat, no chainsaws or decapitations. A black cat plays dead as it's removed from the vet's operating table so he can deal with someone with a gunshot wound. Oi! Queue?

"With a plot recalling the fevered fictions of Jim Thompson, late Polanski, and Isabel Allende, The Fish Child banks on the sizzle of its pair of young female stars and their enactment of class and erotic tensions to flavor its Sapphic noir melodrama." - Bill Weber

A love story of a girl and the maid of her family, El niño pez accomplishes little in it's intriguing framework. The central folklore of the fish child is interesting but not enough, what is left is the adorable Inés Efron who does carry the film some way.
