El vampiro Negro

OK, so M it's not. But to its credit, it knows it. Some sources cite this as a feminist reimagining, and for 1953 there's something to it; not just in giving it a female lead, but also in having one male character - the prosecutor - being at once a driven investigator of a child murderer and a predator himself, and the movie actually calling him on it. The actual killer is a pale imitation of Lorre's character, and there are some plot turns that are much too convenient. But damn, it looks good.
