Nobody ever says the word "Indian", but the guy who says, "Manhattan belongs to *my* people," sure looks Amerind to me. Given the theft of the entire continent of North America and the genocide of its native peoples, is Superman (an uninvited immigrant himself) really fighting on the side of justice this time? Fascinating food for thought, but a Superman cartoon is not about to spend too much time exploring these notions. At any rate this is *still* better than any of the features

Among the Superman shorts, this one has particularly gorgeous background art. Like Billion Dollar Limited, it works well as an animated noir too.

The "fanatical extortionist" is definitely Native American. Just that M.O. gives the villain more subtext than any of the other villains in this series, although it's still racist to a degree.

These Fleischer Superman cartoons are beautifully animated, high tech art deco gems. It's too bad that the Blu-Ray release of them is shoddy garbage with an overly scrubbed image, terrible audio and a watermark in the corner.
