It's cute, and it's got Eric Idle in it so I wasn't TOO bored. If you're in the mood for a fractured fairy tale, you could do a lot worse than this.

This movie is definitely not like any other fairy tale movie. Though it was Disney, i thought it was great! It had a very original, and i think it will be unforgettable.

Ella Enchanted is a fine family fairy tale adventure. It's cute and quite enjoyable. Sometimes the humor slips down to very childish lows, but it's generally alright. The only real problem is that ogres, elves, and giants may find it to be an inaccurate depiction of their respective fictional species. Pretty good!

Cute family movie. But that's the princess of Genovia, and she can't be soft spoken, obidient Ella. This movie came too soon after Hathaway's break out Princess Diaries film.

What was that I said about Cary Elwes being typecast? Anne Hathaway is a gem and does a fine job here. Good family fare.

Would have scored higher if she would have been raped. More believable too.

I adore this film! It's cute, funny, charming, fantastical, sweet, and a pleasure to watch! If you're a fan of the book, be warned that it is a very different story, though still sweet and "fairy-tale-ish." It's well acted, and having Hugh Dancy as Prince Char was, I must admit, a delightful addition! I love this film, and have watched it many, many times!

The movie and book are so dissimilar there are more commonalities to be found with the generic chick-flicks. Swap the stepsisters, the prince, or even Ella herself with any of their counterparts in most other similar films and practically nothing changes. They aren't unique or original, they're the same tired, corporate, cutouts Hollywood has been writing for years.

All points for sparkling eye Anne Hathaway. There was some interesting approachings in the visuals, but they practically kill all the possibilites to have enjoying film.

A "Cinderella" story with a twist, but the twist isn't very good. From the beginning, it is too much whimsy and fluff. I love the actors but not the characters. The music they choose is all wrong. Anne Hathaway's character is too sweet. Eric Idle's narrative was all poem and no point. A little funny could have been thrown in. The only pleasant surprise was Cary Elwes (aka Westley from "Princess Bride") as the bad guy. This was one of those train wrecks where you couldn't look away.

Dire formulaic, unfunny rip off of many comedy/fantasy genre films. The acting is awful, the sets and scenery are plastic and barely dressed. Costume and props are cartoon-like and the script is appalling. Rips off elements of Harry Potter, Moulin Rouge and Disney. Cary Ewles tries to deliver a 'Rickman' baddie and fails dreadfully. - One to miss.

Themes are similarly jumbled. It's great to advocate the equality of all races (species, in this context) and show the value of free will, but the alternative given--to follow your own heart and look for strength within--is beyond trite, it's foolish. Still, admirable restraint in the areas of language, sex and violence will allow many families to succumb to Ella's silliness, and safely sort out the details afterwards. (pluggedin.com)

This isn’t nearly as bad as many of the people on here may lead you to believe. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not great, but it is pretty fun, and mostly harmless. The actual enchantment gimmick was handled pretty well, as were some of the jokes. The acting is all solid and undeserving of the hate, even Elwes’ mustache-their king dialogue. I don’t know why so much of the cast is white in a movie that tries to criticize racism though. This felt pretty dated to me, but it’s a good time. Perfectly fine.
