England Is Mine

Given that I kneel at the alter of Moz, I found this hugely underwhelming as it rarely portrays the literary artistry that he possessed and demonstrated as a young adult. Despite this, and despite him seeming even more of an aloof prick than in real life, his friends and co-workers fawn over him for non-reasons. His depression and inactivity is portrayed well in the film's second half -- but really, out of all the moments of Moz's life, why make a movie about his pre-career times?

Moz has always maintained the view of the stereotypical teen: everybody sucks & everything's a catastrophe. It's why he's so easily caricatured. This film avoids that but what you're left w/ is a teen who seems oddly fully formed (he never tries to fit in) & far too conceited for someone who's yet to impress & waits for lucky breaks to happen to him. It's lucky that only fans will watch this b/c we already love him & what's to come. Otherwise the film asks you to feel for a depressed snob.

ne morrissey'i sevmek, ne belli janrlarda sıradan formül filmlerine özel bir ilgi duymak, ne brown findlay'i izlemekten keyif almak yeterli kalmıyor. filmin anlatma gibi bir derdi olmaması yer yer karakterle denk düşüyormuş gibi görünüyor olsa da bunu çok tembel ve biçimsel olarak sorunlu bir yoldan gerçekleştiriyor.

Conceptually and cinematographically too zoomed in. We can't get past Steven's boredom to understand the social circumstances of the UK in general or Manchester specifically.
