I enjoyed the interview parts with Morricone and the involved directors & musicians, but of course the centrepiece of this docu is his astonishing oeuvre. I was in tears several times. I found it unnecessary to include the celebrity fanbase who failed to add any insights. But just before his death, EM probably appreciated their praise also as the docu suggests that he often felt unrecognised as a composer. 75 for the doc, and a 100 for meastro Ennio Morricone.

Ennio is very much a shallow celebration that you would see on cable tv. I hate the talking head-model. Why are we seeing Hans Zimmer? Quincy Jones? Bruce Springsteen? Who produced all this great music? As much as they want you to believe it, notes written on paper don't magically appear in a movie. The orchestra is miked, recorded, mixed, edited - who did this and is responsible for 50% of the magic? It's not even mentioned! Worth seeing bc the man, not the movie.

There are many stunning features about this documentary: its timing, its detailed narration, its silences and small moments, the array of high-profile guests. -- I was surprised how many garbage movies from the 70s were redeemed by Ennio Morricone's soundtracks.

The first 40 minutes are a bit of a chore to get through but the rest of this documentary brings back fond memories of listening to any Ennio Morricone soundtrack for the 1st time, truly a genius when it came to developing characters and shaping the world inhabited by said characters thanks to his indelible music, which was equally profound and sensitive as the man himself.
