Escaflowne

Pretty, but skip this and watch the much better TV series.

The tv series is WAY better.. this movie is merely a condensed version of the story.

Beautiful graphics, but the TV series is so much better, in every other way!

My first exposure to the Escaflowne franchise, and I still found it mediocre. Some beautiful animation and music but it does not make up for a rushed, trite love story and an entire cast of vapid, one-dimensional characters with no development. Watch the TV series instead.

Solid anime OVA with really good visuals and a plot that keeps you interested and entertained. The biggest issue is there are a lot of characters and they are not developed very well (clearly made for those who have watched the series). If they had added another 20-30 minutes and had more character development it could have been stellar.

Although I don't remember the TV series very well, it's obvious that animation is way better here than there (finally normal noses!).Tracks are also very easy on the ear and therefore these both aspects are enjoyable. There was also included a nice speech about being lonely together. What makes it worse than the original is that the story was not explained and hard to follow for someone who didn't know it beforehand. Perspective for some matters has changed, too. Ending looks very stereotypical.
