I tolerated the first one because I could buy into its shallow premise. This one had a lot of yelling about things I was supposed to care about but clearly didnt. Twists didn't twist, the end.

Basically more of the same. More idiots, more puzzles. These Escape Room movies seem to be heading towards the Saw approach on making these sequels. They can be a bit creative on setting up rooms and hazards, but characters remain stupid and don't think logically for most of it. Despite being bad, it's still entertaining and the running time zips by quickly. If you've seen the first one you know what you're getting into, except less plot this time.

Not as good as the first, but a close second. The main difference here just seems to be that its uninspired. The setup of the different rooms they have to escape, like before, is all pretty neat - but something is missing here. An element of heart, maybe? Of intrigue? Something is amiss, for sure, and I think it's that the film shows you the the villains POV - and when that was a mystery, it was so much cooler in the first one...not only that, but it may have retconned something in the first...

With lowered expectations & aware of the tone (heightened panic, ridiculously advanced tech behind the rooms, extreme contrivances) that the Escape Room franchise has set up for itself, Tournament of Champions is the derivative & logical next step. The film itself is fast-paced & fairly engaging. The characters decent, if a bit thick at times. Apparently there's a cut where Woll's Amanda returns, but I watched the apparently canon daddy-daughter version; though this explains the rushed 3rd act.

Not as good as the first I don't think, delves more into the story behind the company/organization making these rooms which I could not possibly care less about. The whole appeal is insane rooms with people struggling to escape them, much like Cube. The who/what/why simply doesn't matter.

man, Taylor Russell’s a great yeller. the best parts of this movie are when she’s fussing at people. “Ben, stop! Nate, stop! Rachel, stop!” if I had Taylor Russell yelling “stop!” at me each time I drank too much or ate too much or popped a handful of pills or started slacking off at work I’d definitely be living a better life right now.

Better than the original because it tries to be more fun and for the most part pulls it off. Good intro horror movies if people were looking for somethin not too gory or scary or what have you. Couple nice set pieces

This is what Saw would look like if it were PG-13. So Minos is supposed to be this great powerful organization who is always 10 steps ahead, but these randoms are able to defeat their elaborate death traps in 10 minutes or less?? Hmmm...ok

"Yes, please tell me more about generic off-brand evil organization MINOS." Said nobody. Ever. Still – a few decent set pieces.

Definitively worse than the first movie. I was disappointed throughout - from the puzzles, to the cast and the twists and the finale. The theatrical version's ending creates a full circle and is a bit better in that regard.

If you liked the previous one, you will like it; if you didn't, you won't. The puzzle became more complex, which is both good and bad (in that viewers will never be able to participate in the solving process and will only have to watch what they decide to show on screen). With more focus on puzzles, character development became more shallow than the predecessor, and people will forget all the other victims right after the credits roll.

Although this film's premise reminds me of the "Saw" franchise, that's really not the tone it's going for. It's far less brutal, nasty and gory ... lighthearted I guess, but that's not really right. What this film reminded me of is the "Final Destination" series ... it sets up a high-concept Rube Goldberg death trap scenario and the joy is just in watching it unfold. It's extremely low calorie entertainment, but it hits the spot if you're in the mood.

It should have been named Escape Room: Catching Fire. That's more like it.

I can't stop thinking about this movie. Why did they film two completely versions? (I watched the "Extended cut") Will we get two (or three) different versions of a third film? Who approved a Sonya-themed Escape Room?

If you liked the first one, you’ll like this one. The puzzles were slightly better but other than that.. Anything apart from the puzzles are so zipped up that they feel fast fwd. One must realise that watching people solve puzzles is not as much fun as solving them yourself. So a little less solving and a bit more plot would’ve been nice.

1 - People enter a room; 2 - Solve difficult puzzles in seconds; 3 - Someone dies. Mentally repeat the formula for 90 minutes and you will have seen this movie.

The first movie was unintentionally goofy but this amped it up so much bordered on parody right from the opening. This movie was trash, equal parts annoying and entertaining.

For those wanting a minor Squid Game-esque experience after watching that good version of a survival game. Doesn't nearly touch on the same excitement, and definitely not the same emotional effect, but for a Squid quickie it's alright.

Basically the same derivative concept we know we're going to get -- Fincher's The Game with bits of Saw going full teen angst --, but at least this time around we have way more fun and elaborate deadly rooms -- acid rain set-piece is pretty cool, the laser room could've lasted even more. Also, Russell does bits with such a limited script. Too bad the final 20min -- saw the extended cut, so the whole thing about daughter killing dad and maybe becoming the new room master -- seem so lazy.

The directors cut makes it worse and makes it even more of a PG-13 Saw ripoff. Still it’s a decent amount of fun and just stupid enough to work.

Watched the extended cut, which is markedly different from the theatrical. The novelty wears off in this part, you feel less invested in the lead, and the challenges and their solutions become repetitive and absurd.
