Escape to Burma

A silly movie, featuring Barbara Stanwyck, Queen of the Elephants. The Burma setting is not convincing, the stock footage of jungle creatures are obviously in a completely different location from the people they are supposed to be menacing, and the plot is not interesting. Stanwyck and Ryan work well together, though, Farrar is an attractive noble Englishman, and Dwan and Alton do the best they can on the cheap.

Brought to you by the same Bogeaus/Dwan team, now deservedly obscure, that gave us Stanwyck in Cattle Queen of Montana. Why did she work for these people? Did they have pictures of her fucking a horse or something? She tries valiantly to lend a touch of class to the proceedings, but it's useless, like the "diamond in a bowl of shit" analogy. Ryan is quite serviceable, and Farrar is fine as a stuffy British officer. The cheesy Technicolor makes the Sawbwa's turban look like a bandaged head wound.
