Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone

Finally saw this after only having seen the series, and damn, this worked well. It caught up and polished the themes and confusion, and the tech/animation upgrades worked well. Looking forward to getting 2.0 now!

Nearly beat-for-beat retelling of the first part of the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series. Watch the TV series first, then start with the Rebuild films.

I came to this out of curiosity, nothing more. I tentatively enjoyed some of the original animated series. This feels like it feigns depth. The first half is badly paced. The editing feels like it's rushing and some cuts are a bit quickfire. It settles a fair bit in the second half though. Generally, I found the narrative to be overly ambiguous and withholding too much context for me to care about the stakes. The tone doesn't always work, and Shinji is so insecure it's annoying.

Excellent.

This is a rebuild of and awesome series to the way it should have been done. This isntallation gives you the base and begin to delve slightly into what is one of the most indepth examinations of the "human condition" that has ever been released on media.

Made me smile to see these characters again because of my emotional attachement to them and this series. This movie is kind of just the early episodes done worse though because of pacing and certain stuff being cut. The time taken with the early touji plot being stripped down for one
