This movie bends over backwards to please both princess-loving little girls and postmodern feminists, but doing so makes it feel fake and contrived - which is ironic, given how strongly it sells itself as the "true" story behind the fairy tale. The solid cast does most of the heavy lifting here.

Oh, Dougray Scott, why did you have to be so adorable? Same goes for Drew. And there's of course Anjelica Houston, who's great in everything she does. With any other actors, I probably wouldn't have liked it as much. Then again, I'm a sucker for fairy tale reinterpretations.

Nothing surprising here, but it's good for the umpteenth retelling of a story everyone's always known.

Maybe the many, many lesser Cinderella adaptions and remakes made this look good, maybe the ten-year old girl that saw this way back when makes me biased, maybe because Anjelica Huston and Richard O'Brien were in it, but I still really like this.

I suppose credit should be given for a fairly original take on a classic fairytale, but the I cannot get over the fact that it is done in a teenage-romance-film kinda way. Much of the cast is good, but Dougray Scott is woefully miscast. Oh, and his name is Dougray.

Yes, this is another Cinderella spin-off. However, of all the spin-offs to happen, this one is hands down a favorite. All the magical-elements from our childhoods are thrown away -- no fairy godmother, no magical pumpkin or talking mice. So if you like the romance about a country girl and a prince falling in love, but you want it on more of realistic level for the time-period in which this tale happens, this is an adaptation you're sure to enjoy.

A long time since I watched this (interestingly enough I studied it as part of my German language classes at school, so I've seen it in English and German) but I recall it as a refreshing take on the Cinderella trope. Huston the stand out; she really does emanate evil.

Drew Berrymore is stubborn and cute and perfect as Danielle. She shines and the supporting cast backs her all-the-way. The film's pastoral landscape is engrossing. I especially enjoy the da Vinci character and the gypsies' scene. This is one of the few movies that I don't mind watching more than once.

As far as historical-ish romcom goes, it's decent. The Cinderella story was tried so many times before, and so was the "Cinderella but different". Though this one still manages to take its own approach by working harder on the characters and not adding any magic. There is of course many flaws and inaccuracies, but the light-hearted tone and the cast's efforts makes one forgive those. It is also visually nice, which sets it apart from all bad CGI, cheap costume galore that came out since

One of my favorite movies, and a wonderful movie for girls and young women. I loved that although it was a Cinderella story, the main female character, Danielle, played by the always sweet Drew Barrymore, was both vulnerable and fierce, unafraid of being strong and independent.

My favorite Cinderella movie. Although not historically accurate, it comes fully loaded with great clothes, a charming prince, revenge AND Leonardo Da Vinci!

This is Drew Barrymore at her finest, and Anjelica Huston is fantastically vile as the Baroness Rodmilla de Ghent. I cannot help but cry with this movie.

For most of the movie I was completely mesmerized by Henry's cock bulge, but when not staring at Henry's obviously enhanced cock bulge this movie was definitely a piece of crap--especially since Drew Barrymore cant speak without jerking her head about in a palsy-like manner.

A bit like A Knight's Tale if it were made for girls, crossed with a splash of Shrek and a dash of Princess Diaries. Drew Barrymore's performance basically just involves hitting her mark and looking angelic; Dougray Scott has no chemistry with her at all. The fairytale-lifted plot keeps things on track and all the settings and costumes are fine. A few moments can even be described as comedic. Overall, a forgettable and barely necessary film which does nobody any favours.

Below (or even) avarage cinderella adaptation thus you can get better stuff if you know where to look. Overall it's quite bad due to performances of D.Barrymore and D.Scott.

I do like this movie. However, I'm always a tad annoyed because I feel that there's so many plots and character elements that aren't developed. That said, it's still cute and fun take on the classic. And the last line of the film is beautiful!

Starts slow & the soundtrack is frequently swelling and dumb. Plenty of time wasted on visual vistas, framing sequence, & other nonsense. A terrific retelling, touching scenes, a willful Drew and better secondary characters work together to delight me.

Realist Cinderella. Hikayeyi herkes biliyor. Filmin sonunda, sonsuza dek seni seviyorum. Göbek deliğinden burnuna kadar çizerim.

The good: Fun, colourful costume design. Interesting substitution of historical fiction for fantasy magic. Anjelica Huston was clearly having fun. The bad: Prince Henri was astoundingly unlikable, I couldn't root for his romance at all. And something about Drew Barrymore as Cinderella just didn't quite work. Still, as far as Cinderella adaptations go, this is alright.

A familiar story of Cinderella, who marries the prince and joins the royal family. A fitting ending when she takes her small revenge by condemning her conniving evil step mother to the laundry staff. A fitting end to the story. This movie is a bit sappy, totally predictable and seems more a rehash than a remake.

Anjelica Huston gives a delightfully bombastic and simultaneously nuanced performance, while the rest of the movie is lighthearted, inoffensive-to-decent romcom stuff.
