Judy Garland does a Topsy blackface number!!! This isn't the greatest musical comedy in history, but it's still a fascinating piece. For it showcases how amazing Judy Garland really was and this was before she was a big star. A little chubby, but full of spunk. She gets strong help from Ziegfeld Follies comedian Fanny Brice in one of her rare movie appearances. Allan Jones also had a good performance. I was constantly draw to the screen because of Garland, but the movie wasn't amazing.

I like musicals but this just wasn't that interesting. The bare plot is mostly padded with a lot of solos. Interesting for Judy Garland fans who want to see her pre-Wizard of Oz. The Fanny Brice infantile duet was more uncomfortable than Garland in blackface. Fav scene: when the curtains raise on the full stage with a large ensemble of performers.
