I like this more understated and subtle Will Ferrell a lot, and I'm a big fan of Rebecca Hall in anything. But the movie is just a little too sedate and narratively thin. If you're looking for an indie dramedy I'd go with Win Win instead.

Another indie dramadie, and another with Will Ferrell in the lead. To be honest though, without Ferrell in the lead I probably would not have enjoyed this movie as much as I did. He is perfect at playing a subdued character and shines as the lead role here. The movie is slow and it does drag on but it's good for a small ride.

Understated bitterweet tale of a man trying to pull his life together, nicely underplayed by Ferrell. The ending is open-ended but the whole is a little slight.

Meh, I like some things about it and it's okay, but it's quite standard-issue indie fare and sorta slight all over.

A decent drama, despite Will Ferrell, the film has a tone more sad than funny, but this is not exactly a bad thing. Not bad, although not fully reach their potential.

Will Ferrell shows he can be more then just an obnoxious idiot. This is his "Punch-Drunk Love". Not a whole lot even happens in this movie, but it's interesting to watch. I don't really have much else to say except, this is Will Ferrell's movie. He is really the only reason to watch it, which is a good reason.

Will Ferrell is wonderful as an alcoholic loser living on his own lawn, playing this difficult part with dignity and restraint as well as great humor. Unfortunately, the screenplay wobbles a lot trying to flesh out the brief Raymond Carver story that inspired it, not sure whether it wants to be indie-slice-of-life or plot-driven-heartwarming. Laura Dern is very fine in her brief appearance.

Understated but deeply touching drama is anchored and grounded by a extraordinary dramatic performance from Ferrell, who perfectly humanises his potentially obnoxious character and makes him not only relatable but immensely likable. Even without the Ferrell baggage, it is a remarkable effort. The supporting cast (including a wonderful cameo from Dern) are equally fine and an insightful screenplay succeeds in developing the premise in unexpected ways. A real treat.

Ferrell is subtle and macabre in his portrayal of a guy who really likes PRB. I don't blame him. I do blame a film that says very little when it had the opportunity to do so.

The movie could have been so much better than what it turned out to be. The movie is a bit slow and lacks a certain depth which definitely could have had. The performance by Will Ferrell is good. Its not that much of a comedy as it is a drama.

"If Will Ferrell's charisma is directly proportional to his absurdity, then it's little surprise that he fares relatively poorly as a sad sack in Everything Must Go." - Nick Schager

It's relentlessly depressing because of the circumstances that Ferrell's character is thrown into, and also because the film doesn't end with any unquestionable sign of hope for any of the characters involved, nor offers a resounding message. The humor is sporadic and muted; just because Ferrell is the lead doesn't make this a Comedy.

The commercials will have you believe this this is primarily a comedy, they lie...it's mostly just a sad movie about a guy whose wife kicks him out on the same day he loses his job and he decides to spend a couple days nurturing his drinking problem in his front yard. Don't go into it looking for many laughs, that way you wont be disappointed.

A low key experience. Ferrell is pretty good, and shows some of the skill he displayed in the super "Stanger Than Fiction". This movie does little new or exciting, and every so often wanders into the realms of the cliche, but it does have a really nice feel and ethos about it. A good watch.

Ferrell's Nick basically goes around drinking beer, still trying to believe that he can take his old life back -- his wife, at least. And the movie, a (too) good-hearted post-recession dramedy, slowly builds his new life in a catatonic narrative, not always appealing, but sharp enough to make you like him -- and maybe find something good in this yard mess he's trapped in. And, I have to say: Laura Dern is just gorgeous and I loved that ending with I shall be released by The Band.

Starts off with a good concept, which has scope to be taken in almost any direction; unfortunately the direction chosen is a bit too serious and introspective. I was left wanting a bit more craziness, anger or passion from the character. A bit more "fight the system" or "fight your demons" rather than instant submission. The victimised kid was cute but none of the other characters added anything. A perfectly watchable film but disappointing in its lack of ambition or creative vision.

I hate movies about guys who drink all day, but then can act completely sober whenever the plot calls for it. This wasn't a comedy or a drama. It was sad, but only in how boring it was.

It tries and mildly succeeds, imparting its well meaning but simplistic message with decent laughs and acceptable performances. It never manages to get beyond that, though, trapped by a nonsensical setup and an unwillingness to let real drama seep into the comedy beyond a couple of big scenes.

Ferrell is great in perhaps his most subtle role yet. The premise is compelling, though possibly better suited to a short film, as it feels like it spreads itself a little thin.

'Everything Must Go' doesn't contain a complete personal overhaul that you'd expect from the title. The characters change, but only a little bit. Nick is a total ass. By the end of the film, he's slightly less of an ass. Subtlety is part of its charm. Still, it has the necessary indie moment, containing a strange sex act that is far from subtle and otherwise a macguffin. Otherwise, people get upset and don't forget it. Not one character is perfect, nor are they ready to change, but do a bit.

I loved its premise as soon as I heard about it, but Everything Must Go was slightly underwhelming. Dan Rush's debut has all of the workings of a spectacular indie dramedy, but it simply does not reach its full potential. Ferrell should do more dramas, and the little black kid (sorry) needs to be in more, because he was delightful. Go ahead and watch this, but you won't miss much if you don't.

Everything Must Go is a good film that's only true blunder is not being able to relate to an audience on any higher level. We understand everything that's going on, and we appreciate it for that, but any emotional connection is lost somewhere in the middle. I think it's because of how predictable the film, not its characters, are. We know what's coming, and aren't surprised when "tragic" events happen.

This is a good film. The acting is solid and the characters are believable. The reason for my low rating is that this film is also incredibly depressing to watch. Watching a guys life fall apart is just not that much fun. This is especially true if you know real life alcoholics, all you keep thinking is that this could all have been avoided.

Not nearly funny enough to even really be a "dramedy," not really deep enough to truly offer anything worthwhile as a drama. Characterizations are fairly thin and I was checking the time throughout the second half, because it really starts to drag on and on. Still, Ferrell does a decent job drawing empathy for a character who hasn't really earned any via the script. Didn't hate it and there's a few genuinely enjoyable scenes with the kid - but overall left me feeling very apathetic.

I can't say enough about comedians and doing serious movies, they fit so well. Tragedy and comedy go hand in hand afterall. Ferrell is great in this, hes very sympathetic and at the same time has many faults that you wince at, hes not very likeable, which is what makes him likeable, hes human.

This film doesn't reach for anything. It seems like Rush was captivated by the neat ideas in Carver's short story and, instead of exploring those characterizations and themes, transposed those ideas into a self-reflective down and out story. Both stories concentrate on alcoholism, but if this is the story of how a man's life changes, it needed more blood flowing through its veins. In short, the film plods mercilessly, and even the most patient viewers will find themselves shifting.

Pretty good and simple little movie. Movies like this generally need to be carried by good acting and there is definitely that here. Ferrell and the script do a good job showing the desperation and low points of this man without making us hate him or thinking that his situation is unfair. There are some parts that are nonsensical by the end of the movie because they were essentially put there for the sake of drama. Not immersion killing but it does stand out.
