"Experiment in Terror" starts as a thriller then shifts into a straight crime film with no romance or unneeded side-plots. Lee Remick shines in the opening scene then takes a back seat to Glen Ford as he tracks the mystery man.

What starts out seeming to be a "woman in peril" thriller evolves into more of a police procedural focusing on Ford's attempts to track down Martin. I'm not the biggest Ford fan, finding him to be a little bland and straight-laced in most films, but truth be told, that's exactly what's needed here and he's excellent. Remick is also in top form, but the real star here is Martin, who's really creepy and menacing.

Two words I would NOT use to describe this movie are "taut" and "gripping."

A solid noir start, but turns borderline buffoonish police procedural within about a half hour. Funny how in the years before the bulk of modern forensics and security that anyone could portray the FBI with such confidence. Kinda seems like anyone could have been a criminal mastermind in the 60's and get away with it.

This one a little ahead of its time. Loved the black and white cinematography and cast.

I think I like Glenn Ford more when he's a dick, but still, a fun cat-and-mouse plot that's especially helped by its grasp of San Francisco as a setting, a labyrinthian landscape shrouded in noir's characteristic shadows and fog. Probably doesn't need to be two hours, though.

Blake Edwards directed Breakfast at Tiffany's in 1961 and The Pink Panther in 1963. It surprised me that he, in 1962, squeezed in both Days of Wine and Roses (which, in my opinion, is one of his best) and this dark and nifty thriller. The guy had range.

BlurayRip RARBG.

Ridiculous really, but I like to watch Lee Remick, so there it is.
