Extraction

The action isn't quite as good as the recent John Wick films, though it feels very similar. The writing is okay, but the main character having a dark past is a little old and the ending annoyed me.

Imagine a mean spirited John Wick that takes itself too seriously, all the fun sucked out of it.

If you are going to make a movie that has the kinetic bones of The Raid and John Wick then you are going to be compared to these and Extraction lacks any real sense of self that the former excel in. Hemsworth is a one-man killing machine that lets out painful grunts and plentiful headshots. As he doles out carnage, that impressive conclusion to the first act becomes a distant memory and everything gets a little repetitive.

Very pedestrian action-thriller blockbuster that doesn't stand out in its genre much, aside from some colour grading that doesn't look ugly and a 'one shot' action sequence that astounds for its audacity and joy -- all the other action moments don't have the same kinetic or even choreographic display to make them as enjoyable, but there's just about enough tension, shooting, explosions, and yelling in a dodgy Aussie accent to keep this a bit entertaining.

An entertaining, but generic action thriller with a contrived sad sap ending. It's competent, but unremarkable, a decent enough Friday night movie.

Jason Bourne plays Man on Fire in India. Entertaining and fun which is most important in an action movie. The action scenes were unique and good, but the plot was cliche and mediocre. I hated the opening scene and the closing scene. If you could take the first and last minute out, this would be better than just decent fun.

There are some good kinetic moments, but most of the action is ugly, yellow-saturated gunfire. Blurry memories and a sensitive kid are not enough to give a meaningful heart to the ugliness, especially when there's a sequence of child soldiers getting casually mauled by the adult protagonist. Aside from that scene (memorable for the wrong reason), the final product is a pretty forgettable big budget action flick.

Really did not expect to dig this as much as I do. It's not quite John Wick but man are the action sequences ever intense and choreographed well. Sure there's lots of precision shooting but it's very physical and you see pretty unique methods of fighting here and there. If an action movie delivers something more than average shootouts I'm into it. Hemsworth was well suited for the role and while the character arcs aren't surprising, it still adds some more meat to the movie as a whole.

In the John Wick imitation game of life, non-stop action makes Tyler Rake.

The least you can say is that this film is superbly filmed and very well paced. The cast is marvelous too; great performances! Don't watch this for a real story though. Besides that, this is a great watch.

Absolute balls out action in the best way. In fact, the only thing that seams to cheapen this movie is the attempts at humanizing the protagonist with emotional backstory that kinda comes off very cliche. Very run of the mill eyeroll backstory. But despite that, absolute great fun. This is meant for that time you dont want to think anymore, this movie is purely just to give your brain a rest and just soak in some beautifully stupid catharsis.

Worth seeing for the Netflix-Daredevil-type one take action scene alone, otherwise it’s a reasonable action film that most will forget about shortly after seeing it. Hemsworth is good in this role as well. I just wish that either the story/characters were better, or that it leaned more towards the action. It’s definitely worth seeing once, but I can’t imagine ever rewatching it.

A solid action film starring a very capable Chris Hemsworth. It's forgettable as all hell, but will entertain action fans with solid set pieces and gripping suspense. It's a great movie night popcorn flick.

It's an 80s action movie, but better. The screenplay is ridiculously weak and to describe the characters as tired clichées would be an understatement. But the camera work is the best I have ever seen in an action flick and the Benghali setting is refreshing. Just switch your brain off, grab a beer, and enjoy.

A great action flick, and a strong performance by number one man-crush. I loved the fight choreography. It was so well suited for Hemsworth.

Tense and exciting action but lacks credibility in places. Hemsworth is very good in this, but the story is pretty bleak. Overall worthwhile.

A welcome addition to the action genre. Really good directing, camera work and fight choreography, both with and without guns. The action scenes are easily the prime rib of the film, with an average story hanging off it's bones, like fatty gristle. Some characters were used as a plot device, and because of it, made parts of the film predictable. Action films should take a page from Die Hard. Basic story with more pew pew, bang bang and less clichéd inner conflict drivel.

Its a cool mixture of "Man on Fire" and "John Wick" on a expendables type of militaristic set-up. Its not a easy one (mixture) to blend and yet this is good. There are some plotholes and unrealistic stuff but mostly its a good action movie with lot of emoıtion. Ending is a bit lazy to me. Cuz it try to win both sides . It might be a forgettable one but its a very technical and entertaining one too.

It's quick paced but doesn't really build anything else really well. One dimensional hero rescue characters on the verge of drug and alcohol abuse because of a past trauma are over done. Easily could have had more depth. Very uninspired performances as well nothing really seemed to wow me about this. The hand to hand combat was decent but the rest of the film reminded me of call of duty but without the playable experience. Just missed on all accounts. Expected more. Sadly disappointed.

Great fighting sequences.

This surprised me. It's an amazing action film. Some of the sequences even reminded me of a video game. The story is rather simple and very action flick-y, but the action is definitely worth it. Chris Hemsworth seems very comfortable in the role especially being allowed to speak in his natural accent.

A good, old-fashioned action movie with some really fantastic long shots.

Hemsworth is cool and the action well done, but sadly it all makes very little sense. Makes John Wick seem like Shakespeare.

Apart from the impressive action scene that occurs in the middle of the film, there is not much left.

Movies with kids stress me the heck out. But I like this actor.

Would have been better as one long action scene front loaded with a slower setup. Decent fight scenes but not that engaging. CG shots should have been edited out, don't look good enough. Chekovs tarp/blanket thing gets follow through, but not boiling water on stove?

I should have lowered my score by a point or two (down to 5 or 6 out of 10) due to handheld/shaky-cam that made me feel motion sick a few times, but other than that this is great for what it is.

The action is really good and the acting isn't that bad either, it's the paint-by-numbers story and script that hampered the film.

Good action, almost non-stop, not much character development but Hemsworth and the child actor do a good job.

That 12-minute one-shot scene is super dope. The rest is well made, but almost too intense. Constant action overload.

A solid piece of unpretentious action film making with great stunt work, good John wickesque fight choreography, clear emotional stakes, brisk pacing and a charismatic leading turn from Hemsworth. I'm particularly taken with the faux one take car chase shoot out near the midpoint, one of the cooler urban action set pieces since John Wick's Russian club scene.

Wall-to-wall action, well-choreographed, and a bit too brutal for its own good. Less sadism and more Tyler Rake could certainly boost further installments, for what is otherwise a terrifically staged action film.

Two amazing action setpieces stuck in a so-so drama.

I loved this movie. Really exciting action from start to finish, in a location you rarely see in these type of movies, which also added to the excitement. Hemsworth is awesome as usual, and the action is directed really well. There's a really long one shot action sequence in the middle of the movies that is absolutely one of the best I've seen. If you have an HDR TV, this movie also has some absolutely gorgeous HDR.

A shy boy learns courage by spending time with a mass murderer whose only weakness is that he doesn’t like seeing children die. A bit orange-and-teal and some confused moral arithmetic, but the Australian-style swearing is somewhat amusing and an incredible amount of skill and technical effort has clearly been expended on some of the highly kinetic action sequences. And it is kind of interesting that movies like this can now be made with no intention of ever having them be shown in the cinema.

John Wick + Call of Duty. Third person action is pretty good and nearly at John Wick levels. The bits through the Bangladesh multi-story tenements is very cool and well constructed. The movie overall is much better than the JW sequels due to the story and character arcs. Some of the FX are pretty mediocre (car explosions) but it's mostly physical action and amped shoot bang. Randeep has good screen presents and Hemsworth matches it.

Solid meh. Why do all Netflix originals look like they were shot by the same cinematographer? The two big action sequences near the beginning and the end are actually pretty decent but Russo's script is unbelievably bland.

It's an extremely shallow character, but I've never enjoyed Hemsworth this much in a role. He does a great job in the action scenes, and I would absolutely be down for more roles like this from him in the future. A cookie-cutter script fit for a straight-to-DVD B-movie is made functional with some slick direction from Sam Hargrave, who cut his teeth as a stunt coordinator and 2nd-unit director. It's simple and straightforward but highly enjoyable in the right areas.

Making one of the most charismatic actors of the MCU play a sad merc is just dumb. While the action is well executed, the overall tone is too serious and sad to lift this movie from just another action movie hell. The one take scene might not be actually one shot but is well done and is the highlight of the movie.

Sure, some cool action here and there and it starts pretty cool. But the rest is way too forgettable and lame - boring story and get some more strong actors.. Come on.. how can he die like that.

John Wick's poor cousin, but not that much. Some serious well-shot carnage comes with long shots in car chases and gun fights -- and a knife one. Could't care less about Rake's wicked past as a soldier who left wife and dying kid behind years back and now reconnects with himself in this suicidal mission of rescuing the son of an Indian drug lord from another crime king in Bangladesh. Less handicam and steadicam shots would've been good, but this feels fun anyway.

Under Quarantine Film Reviews #77: Extraction features electrifying action set pieces and a badass performance by Hemsworth. However, the middling script and clichéd storyline, as well as the generic yellow filter that makes my country look like a nationwide slum, hampers its potential. Maybe if I wasn't Bengali I would have enjoyed it more as it clearly was made by someone who hired actors from Kolkata to play locals and has never experienced Dhaka traffic.

Entertainingly forgettable.

It's nothing special, but the story holds up, and Chris Hemsworth puts a compelling performance to make him a reliable action star outside of the MCU. Not to mention, the movie, as a whole, is way better than the Bruce Willis movie of the same name that I looked at a couple of years ago.

While the action scenes are well made, the plot is nothing to write home about nor is it really anything never seen before.

Extract your eyes, ears and soul before you watch this and you'll feel better

Lots of long shots, a very nice change for an action movie. Sure, they used whip pans and hidden cuts, but it looks very nice.

This film has been generally poorly reviewed for not being what it seems to have had no intention of being. It's pretty much a framework to hang a series of extended action sequences on, and those action sequences are extraordinary. There's a sequence in the middle staged as if it were one 35 minute take. The last 40 minutes is an intricate and masterfully staged gun fight on a bridge. The geography of the action scenes is always crystal clear. They are really beautifully done.

I don't think Extraction succeeds at being the type of "deeper" John Wick movie that it wants to be, but it is well-made and features some spectacular action sequences, particularly the long one take scene in the middle of the film. Hemsworth also turns in a nuanced performance that deserved a better screenplay to support it. There are so many shreds of a better movie here that it's a shame they don't quite come together.

So trite it's almost a Golan-Globus throwback, Hemsworth even looks a bit like Chuck Norris. The genre is a time capsule from the 1980s, but at least the production values have improved, and the photography is much more hip (that trendy colossal single shot...). For something bereft of anything resembling intelligence or plausibility, I guess it passes the time.

The action scenes, especially the chase scenes, are all fantastic and really well executed, giving the movie some much needed memorable moments, as the overall story, the interactions between characters, and the performances in Extraction all lie somewhere between standard and serviceable.

Quite standard for its genre - if you fancy it, you will enjoy this one too.

Random killing with Chris Hemsworth. While a lot of the action was good, the whole films was so rooted in clichés that I never quite understood why all the killings was happening. Lazy in establishing emotional root. But it was always meant to be a brainless action flick.

Pure action. Plot is paper thin and the emotional attachment to anyone involved in the story even thinner. Action scenes are well done.

The action sequences are pretty great, lots of oners. But where the editing is restrained and sophisticated, the story and script are brainless and cliched. Not much to say about it. Skip the talking if you can't stand the nausea and just enjoy the close quarters combat.
