Extreme Ops

Extreme Ops

2002
Suspense/Thriller
1h 33m
A film crew travels to the Austrian Alps near the (former) Yugoslav border to film three extreme sports enthusiasts being chased down by an avalanche for a commercial. What they don't know, however, is that they're filming near the secret hideout of Slobodan Pavle, a Serbian war criminal. Accidentally catching him on film, they become locked in a life-or-death chase through the mountains that includes skiing, snowboarding, sky diving, white water rafting, helicopters, motorcycles, and base jumping. Nothing happens until 56 minutes into the film, it's just a lot of extreme sportspeople doing extreme sports with the flimsy pretence of filming some sort of advert. Some people are killed, most survive, that's about it. Also they have a shot at doing parkour, but it's actually fast edited jumping about for 5 minutes to some thumping royalty free dance music which is far funnier than it should be. In conclusion: It's extreme allright - extremely boring! Ahahaha

Captures everything that was wrong about the late 90s in one X-TREME package. Hat's off to that.

If you see this movie as an action thriller, then it is totally crap. But when you see it as a sport movie, then its very entertaining. Its from start to end an ode to extreme sports and everything else is not important. Duguay directed also Art of War with Snipes on the lead role. I like that film but when Duguay intend Extreme Ops to be similar thriller as is Art of War, he totally blew it.

The best thing about this when I saw it (I was being paid for a technical screening, I swear!) was that the last reel's sound and picture were out of sync, and this made for some amusing bits where sound effects and dialogue came in at the wrong time. It wouldn't matter if this film were erased from history.
