After the title, a white screen gives way to a series of frames suggestive of abstract art, usually with one or two colors dominating and rapid change in the images. Two figures emerge from this jungle of color: the first, a shirtless man, appears twice, coming into focus, then disappearing behind the bursts and patterns of color, then reappearing; the second figure appears later, in the right foreground. This figure suggests someone older, someone of substance. The myth? (IMDb)

Short but pretty cool. Not my favorite Brakhage but it works.

I don't know if I like this or hate it. I think I like this one. I hate it too, though. Fuck you, Brakhage.

There's something kind of cool here, but I can only get so much out of a 9 second film.

I watched this twice and saw two completely different things. Wild.

The best film ever with a running time under ten seconds? Probably.

First time I saw it, I thought it was just jumbled avant garde wankery. The second time I saw it, I saw something completely new in it and I had to watch it again and again. Neat stuff!

I keep rewatching this. It's starting to make me a little paranoid, and I don't really know why.

Short but sweet (yes, it really is only nine seconds long)

Briefly makes me wonder what any sort of "traditional" (that is, representational) Brakhage animation might look like.

Well, it's nine seconds long. The brief, fleeting image is captivating, though. The artist seemingly encased in the materials of his art.

Like what you see when you rub your eyes or just close them tightly. As to the subject matter, who knows? Worth watching in slow motion; I love the effort Brakhage put into his "handmade" films.
