As this was a pretty dull picture, I nodded off a few times, but I still got the basic concept which, admittedly, was brilliant: Donald Sutherland is trapped in a crushingly mediocre thriller and does his damnedest to escape. Yet, everytime an opportunity presents itself, the filmmakers lure poor Donald back into the fray with tits or plot contrivances. And thus began the descent into irrelevance for a man who was once one of the greatest actors in Hollywood.

It feels like two movies smashed together, and that's a good thing. It takes our conceptions of the spy thriller and transforms it seamlessly into a Hitchcockian nightmare.

There are better spy movies out there, even WWII spy flicks. The last twenty minutes almost made it worth it, but not quite.

Not bad. The film has some decent film noir and Hitchcock influences, but the sex scenes made me feel incredibly awkward/grossed out & it was rather dull right up until the finale.

A little limp, but I love it when they add successful sensitive moments to thrillers.

An old-fashioned spy yarn with plenty of action, most of which comes in the last third. The climactic scenes will keep you riveted.

Quite the different spy thriller.

Considering the premise, this was surprisingly dull and Sutherland's super-spy skills seemed to hinge on his opponents being either mentally or physically handicapped.

The first half wastes itself with stupid cat and mouse games and the film would have been better had the "romance" been given more time for emotional depth, esp as its implied the spy may not have just been using the woman. The impact of her finding him out and aftermath would have been more exciting. In any case its not too bad and the ending isn't hitchcock but takes a good crack at it.

Although DS being stranded on the deserted island only makes up the last half of the movie, it's what's most memorable from it, thank to the solid characterization and slow building of tension. The half leading up to that are is decent standard WWII spy-thriller stuff. Donald Sutherland does a superb job in showing the human behind this cold-blooded killer. It's the kind of role he was born to play. The lesser known Kate Nelligan does a fine job matching him.
