A stranger (Jayaram) comes to a village where a father, Madhava Menon (Thilakan), had been waiting for his long-lost son Balan for 15 long years, along with Balan's childhood sweetheart Ashwathy (Kanaka), who had remained unmarried for Balan. The stranger pronounces himself to be Balan & gives Menon & Ashwathy a new lease of life. Days later, when everyone seemed happy, the real Balan (Saikumar) shows up.
