Pretty clever but dated. I assume Gen Z'ers will just think "Well, why didn't they just use CGI instead of makeup?"

someone had a great idea for the first act of the movie and didn't bother with the rest. there's so much potential here -- the lines between illusion and reality, the way movies deceive us, even Rollie's confidence in his own profession. instead of dumping the twist immediately, why not lay some drama in his faltering belief that everything was fake? instead Brian Dennehy scenes are recycle until it turns into Home Alone.

Years ago with the mechanical fx madness of eighties this one seemed interesting. First signs of geekdom in a juvanile.

Imagine F/X now: a dude trying to evade murder with a laptop and a green screen. A solid 80's action flick that resembles Home Alone for adults.

Perfectly serviceable 80's action thriller starring the unlikely combination of Bryan Brown and Brian Dennehy. Some of the movie FX gimmicks Brown's character employs are surprisingly clever and effective. Jerry Orbach is pretty good as the mob villain.

Pretty decent man-against-the-world type of flick.

Credibility problems but a fun movie

Long before the TV series or the cable channel, there was this movie. I saw it in when it came out, and enjoyed it quite a bit. It may have dated a bit over the decades, but it's a good, solid thriller that relies on a bit of cleverness rather than a shootout or explosion every minute.

Good first half; turns to shit in the second half. Pacing is terrible.

This is a spiffy thriller that ultimately disappoints because it leaves too many plot threads unsatisfactorily resolved.
