Grand scale Italian gladiator epic from one of the country's premier directors Alessandro Blasetti, a co-production with French associates using the French trio of Michèle Morgan, Henri Vidal & Michel Simon as its main attraction. Some screen magic was missing to truly make it the epic it wanted it, but there's no denying there is a lot to love about Fabiola (1949), which shares qualities of greater epics to come.
