Failure to Launch is a romantic comedy from its beginning to its finale. It doesn't do anything to differentiate itself from that formula, which means that if you've seen a couple of them before, you'll feel like you've seen this one, too. That'd be fine if it was funny or genuinely romantic, but it's neither. Its supporting cast is more interesting and funnier than its leads, but we don't get enough of it to make watching this movie worthwhile. Failure to Launch is not worth your time.

Not as terrible as anticipated (although getting baked beforehand certainly helped). It's difficult to conceptualize McConaughey's risw from this to Rust Cohle.

Passable enough effort from McConaughey's bleak wilderness years - if the conceit involving Parker's job is difficult to swallow, there are countless rom-coms with sillier conceits so I'm not inclined to attack such low hanging fruit. Sparked by a fine support cast that runs rings around the leads, especially Bates and Bradshaw who swing wildly for the fences but are undeniably funny at times; Bates especially brings a sensitivity that reminds you of what she can do with better material.

Reeks so much of desperation that whatever laughs one might have throughout also carry that bitter why-couldn't-have-been-better aftertaste.

This is a pretty average romantic comedy with a few elements (like the poorly executed sequences of animals biting Matthew McConaughey) that push it on the worse side. It does happen to have a fairly stellar cast for a run of the mill rom-com, though: Bradley Cooper, Zooey Deschanel, Kathy Bates, and Justin Bartha join the leads. I'm not a huge rom-com fan though, so it doesn't do much for me. It also just isn't very funny, the jokes never really land.

Though for the most part, it is a pointless romantic comedy, there are many instances of sheer insanity in this film. Some of it is downright absurd, like usually harmless woodland creatures regularly attacking Matthew McConaughey and Zooey Deschanel trying to ruthlessly murder a mocking bird. In short, it's a totally weird movie that the uniqueness of does not increase the goodness of. Crap!

How to make this movie tolerable: If Zooey Deschanel is not in a scene, fast forward. Hollywood, whoever got the idea that Sarah Jessica Parker is the girl of someone's dreams needs to find reality.

Gets as high a score as it does because I like Zooey Deschanel. Pretty brainless DUH DUH comedy where the characters aren't likable at all. Plus, you have to see Terry Bradshaw naked.

Horrible. Probably the worst movie I've ever had to sit through in the theaters. I mean I was dragged to it, so I might have been biased, but movies can surprise me sometimes. This one didn't. It was laugh free, the leads had zero chemistry (and I think McConaughey is devoid of a soul), and it had ridiculous moments of trying to force laughter. An embarassment for all involved.

The kiss of death for a romantic comedy is lead characters you can't identify with despite the movie's desperate attempts to generate empathy. In Failure to Launch, Tripp tries to dupe Paula the same way he has emotionally swindled countless other women. He's not just a jerk, but a handsome one with more raw material working in his favor than most guys in the audience will ever dream of. So he's not an everyman, nor a Cinderella story in need of a cheering section. (pluggedin.com)

Carrie Bradshaw meets Terry Bradshaw, and the wrong one gets naked. The title, awful as it sounds, is wholly appropriate, as what starts out with a mildly original and entertaining concept, ends up using it to peddle the same old crap. It's not all bad though. Zooey Deschanel, as SJP's down-on-love alcoholic roommate, is a fucking riot. There's a scene between her and Rob Corrdry that's absolutely classic. Other than that, blah.

Surprisingly, not one of the ABSOLUTE worst romantic comedies that I've ever seen, but don't get me wrong. It was still really bad. Zooey Deschanel was really the only ray of hope. But the question remains: What the fuck were the filmmakers thinking with random and sporadic animal attacks. As a metaphorical motif, it doesn't work. As a comedic element, it's not funny. Just what in the fuck were they thinking?

Predictable. McConaughey is mediocre as always in this romcom, but what really kills it is SJP. She's just not that good of an actress. I watched the entire movie wishing it was centered on the main characters' friends, who were much quirkier and more interesting than these two.

"Failure to Launch" basically is Matthew McConaughey doing a bad Ben Stiller slapstick rom-coms. It's not the worst movie ever but also not a fun one. -- An unlikely and far-fetched love story that cuts to awkward slapstick scenes every 15 some minutes.
