Most of the animated segments are really good (if lacking the raw, primal power of the originals), but the celebrity introductions are either unnecessary or downright annoying (looking at you, Steve). Worth watching for sure, but keep the fast-forward button ready.

I can think of two reasons you should see this: 1. It's an entertaining extravaganza of animation that will offer at least a few segments that should wow you. 2. It has some great music. I really tried to think of 1,998 more reasons so I could say, "I can think of 2000 reasons you should see this" but I just couldn't do it. Couldn't do it. I'm sorry I've failed you.

Music and animation are so much better matched in this version than in the original. The introductions are funny but appropriate. Animation is a whole level better!

Rhapsody In Blue and The Firebird (and Sorceror, duh, which stuck out like a sore thumb) were the only ones I enjoyed. Carnival of the Animals and Pomp and Circumstance felt thoroughly uninspired, and the rest was lifeless CG. Could have done without the guest stars, although it's nice that most were actually musicians. As a whole the film seems cold and insincere, and mounting a production like this is certainly not the massive feat that Fantasia was sixty years earlier.

Much better paced than the original, toning down the in-between presentations while showcasing a broad variety of great animation styles.

Update of the 1940 Disney milestone suffers from the fact that marrying music and images is no longer a novel idea; TV-style host intros don't help. But there are a number of entertaining segments, including "The Pines of Rome", "Rhapsody in Blue", "Pomp and Circumstance", and "Firebird Suite".

I liked a few segments, disliked some others, and found it kind of sad that they reused the Sorcerer's Apprentice.

Like the original, but with slightly worse music and less interesting animation. The heart and ideas are still there, making this interesting to watch, but it feels a bit manufactured and unpolished. The introductions to each piece don't really help.

Faster-paced, with a more modern style in general, which isn't necessarily bad, but the shorts vary more in quality, with some new classics like 'Rhapsody' and 'Firebird', while others were rather lifeless. Still, a solid and admired production.

An exercise in how to run a classic film through the mill. Distinctly the lesser article, and in a few instances, quite unwatchable.

Certain scenes ( Rhapsody in Blue, in particular ) come close to the magic of the original while others are merely alright. It's not bad but it's not great, either.

While "Fantasia 2000" fails to live up to the original classic due to distracting celebrity cameos and an overall lacking sense of refinement, it nonetheless has its share of commendable segments with fantastic animation (notably "Rhapsody in Blue" and "The Firebird Suite").

A couple cool segments and some others which are not so interesting broken up with poorly written inane introductions by some people i like. I recall feeling like i wanted more narrative in the first one, & in this one i wanted less. Perhaps my tastes have changed. Although the idea of illustrating music is very compelling, the ten dollar seats were rather expensive.

These animated sequences are quite lovely and sometimes funny, and would be quite good if they didn't have to be compared to the original Fantasia. But they do have to be compared to the original Fantasia, and they come up short.

I think that Fantasia is a beautiful film and the music is wonderful, and when I heard they were making another with new animations, I figured it would be great too. Well, I figured correctly. Fantasia 2000 even goes beyond the first in excellence. The animations are more elegant suitable for the music, and they never lose the viewer's attention like the original's sometimes did. Really good!

Really, really good. Unless you hate music and animation, in which case you won't find much to like. The 'Rhapsody In Blue' sequence in particular is outstanding, but most are excellent. Tighter and more technically refined than the original.

Nicely animated. The rehash of The Sorcerer's Apprentice feels a bit like a cheat, especially with such a short runtime, but thankfully it's a classic and extremely rewatchable. The Firebird Suite is by far the highlight.

Underwhelming tribute. I guess Rhapsody in Blue was supposed to be the showcase, but it didn't gel for me despite my love of the musical piece. There's a couple of fun interludes midway with flamingos and Donald Duck, leading to the Miyazaki-inspired ending set to Stravinsky's Firebird suite. But in what should be the strongest segment, it fails to capture the magic of the director it's copying. Disney works best when it's making magic, not when trying to copy the art of others.

Flimsily put-together though it may be (the celebrity cameos are among the most painful things in any Disney movie ever), there are still some very good shorts here. The Firebird and Rhapsody in Blue are the obvious standouts. It just... it's not *enough*. The first Fantasia was a two-hour-plus celebration of classical music, whereas this is a hasty ninety-minute jumble with bad celebrity cameos. It's still good, but it could have been so much better had they just put a little more time into it.

My favourite piece was probably the one that focused on New York and some of its citizens going about their days. I found it a bit weird that they repeated the exact same animation segment that featured Mickey Mouse from the first one - I'd rather have seen all new material. So, yeah, my mind wandered a bit, but it's a nicely-made movie with great music and animation. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to another film in the series.

The long-overdue sequel gets some things right and some things wrong. "Pines of Rome" and "Pomp and Circumstance" do very little for me. But the other segments all range from good to outstanding. For my money, "Firebird Suite" is the best of either film, an achingly gorgeous creation that always brings a tear to my eye. "Rhapsody in Blue" is a delight as well. The film really could use one more segment, and preferably something more abstract. But as a whole, it's pretty damn good.

(2014-15 Disneython #32:) The Rhapsody in Blue New York sequence is just a total delight, and were it a standalone short film would get a much better score than what I give its compilation. (And The Sorcerer's Apprentice is classic, of course). Beyond that I wasn't too impressed.

Of the new sequences Rhapsody in Blue is by far the most charming and best in both animation and music. The Noah Arc with Donald and Firebird Suite bits are also quite okay. Some other parts are just boring and awfully animated; Pines of Rome featuring ugly whales and a boring retelling of the The Steadfast Tin Soldier. The inclusion of the original segment The Sorcerer's Apprentice only underlines how poor some of the new sequences are. The introduction by different host are absolutely grating.
